Have got a few rainwater tanks to quote - asking for a setup whereby when tap opens it pumps....anyone any experience of this sort of setup before I talk to suppliers ?

What was the pump setup like ?

Ive priced them in the past but only ever fitted a couple and the customers sorted their own pump setup.out, they aren't cheap though and more often than not people shy away from them when they get the quote.
I have a couple of 5000l to price.

I have a couple of 5000l to price.
Mine came in at 22k not heard back!
UV filters and pump was in a separate chamber I think but not positive on that

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
will be pretty much the same sort of set up as I have here at a guess .... assume tap will be just std domestic type thing?
I have a Nocchi jet inox (potable S/Steel pump) with a pressure switch on the outlet of the pump with a non return valve built into it - that controls the pump motor - knocks off when system is at 1.5bar .. open the tap and it switches on as the pressure in the system drops .... also have an expansion vessel tee-ed in to 'smooth' the pump's cycling, if tap is on/off/on/off a lot

Done a big 10k litre one on horse yard with on demand water, built it myself form tank and submersible pump was fairly easy to do. Will find some pics tomorrow when not got baby in my arms lol

A submersible pump is an interesting choice - may I ask why? A submersible pump has the great advantage that it can never loose prime, so if the tank is buried or there is some other reason the pump can't be mounted below the water level, it's good choice.
In Oz, pressure tank/pump combos are common - typically setup with the tank on the ground and the pump next to it.
The two benefits of a pressure tank are:
- (as above) the pump doesn't have to start as soon as a tap is turned on
- it reduces the pressure variation between when the pump is running or not

10k is big? HaHa! I've got 2k next to the tractor shed just so I can wash my hands.

Done a couple tank installs on we added a fresh water feed on a float set up so if ran dry during dry summer the toilets and outside taps would still work as it was for toilet flushing and outside watering only
Inlet had built in leaf screen not sure on rest as customer sorted that out with his plumber
Also you will still need a soak away off the back of it in case it's full

Few reasons but frost proofing it, easy of priming, ease of installation etc

Basically I’d priced a £150k full 14 stable yard and yard redo, I’d not seen the specifics on the rainwater harvesting on requiring 2 on demand taps from it. So had to do a system for the £6k I had in the budget for in my mind was just a tank.

Tank was only £2500 installed it filled it with water didbt put a drain in then few days later tested the pump which had a float so pickup always 4” from surface to avoid scum etc in tank.

Lads used all the water in tank for wash off and mixing had a wet weekend before tank was connected to drains and it emerged like a Russian submarine when we arrived Monday morning lol 😂

So lifted it out re dug it and installed a deep land drain and re installed with more concrete and made sure pump was removed so lads had to use hosepipe from farm house 100m away.

Had to design it and install it myself so bit of research and trial and error got it working feeding two 3/4 taps. Takes 700m2 roof watershed but no ground drainage. Had an overflow to drain.

Made a crude filter in inspection chamber leading into it but nature of pump means it’s resilient to crap.

50mm hose comes off pump into union then goes to the two taps and two auto level concrete troughs

Filled the inside of the chamber with 50mm celotex and rock wool

This was a trickier one, we built this 20m x 8m welfare block for a camp site had 7 toilets they wanted to flush with roof water. Had 4 ibc wrapped in plastic, I interconnected them, then a filter then into toilet feeds with only like 300mm head,

Put a float valve into 1 tank to control level off mains and later added a 15mm feed off it into the feed in just to give it some pressure as the cisterns took to long to fill. Was a big ask on no budget again to feed 7 toilets in busy camp site. Needed a pump etc.

Again self designed self installed system still working. Had primary mesh filters on gutters then Geotextile bag filters then inline filter

Would do it differently now but was making it up and learning as I went

Was a bugger to work on no room

Put in bypass in 3” to dump all tanks to drain
And built in space for ibc in solid rock dig out
