Some photos from con expo in Las Vegas just before the pandemic took hold. If I wasn’t so hungover would have grabbed some better quality photos. By god the Americans do know how to put a show on you could walk around the place for a week and still not see it all. Last day of the show got cancelled as the Covid 19 progressed we were flying home that day anyhow made it home just before the travel ban.

Couple photos of me standing infront of the big komatsu shovel and Volvo 950. The the large Volvo ridged Dumptruck in the photo was manufactured in the Volvo plant in Motherwell, Scotland. Only about 20 miles from where I stay.

Some of the field service truck set ups they had on show there really does put out way of working in the uk to shame. You can’t compare the set up they have to us working out of the back of a van.
But it's all relative though. And a bit like the Scandinavian machines that have been discussed on here before, there must be a lot more money in some areas of the industry over there. They travel some big distances to a job a well

Works ticking over in Scotland just now count do with some big road jobs or some wind farms starting to keep everything going. Most of the work atm is housing market related.

New Rammer 5011E added to the fleet this week. It weighs in around 5.5ton and is for carrier weights of 40 ton to 70 ton. Big investment for us as it’s only an attachment hopefully the planned work for it all comes off. I’ve been hiring in for the past couple of years and looking at the hire costs it made sense to purchase instead of hiring.

Looking at the pictures it looks like you attach the pipes direct rather than use quick couplers. Do you do that for extra flow?

Anything bigger than a 30 ton machine we direct mount them. The couplings never last with the vibration. Normally when a client is paying for this size of machine (cat 349e 52ton) and breaker you would have a 20 or 12 ton machine there to do the cleaning out of the track. It’s been brought in to break out 5/6 meter deep service tracks.

I’m amazed you even have that under a QH seeing as it’s at the lower end of its carrier weight range - what a beast!
I’m sure the investment will pay off for you!

The photos don’t do the length of it any justice. It’s over 3.5m long. We’ve always ran Rammer hammers for over 30 years now and always had a good return from them.
Knowing what they cost for a 9 tonner you'd need to be getting a return off what i imagine that would cost. Can't beat self sufficiency if you can afford it though.

This time next year Rodney...

We change between Digging bucket, Ripper tooth and hammer regularly on the machines so quick hitch is must. To be fair the machine is fit for more weight than that. I once had a 9.5ton hammer on that sized machine, it was cheap Chinese brand though wasn’t up to much in the way of power and limited your working range. The 50 ton machine we have Mass excavation sticks on them so are a good couple meters sorter than normal sticks on 50 machines that’s why there able to cope with the weight. We once used the Cat 345d for lifting a 10 ton culvert door on that was probably right at it’s limits of what it could do.
