no questionThe crash is coming.
make hay RossWhen do you think , Iv said it before but Iv called it for the last 18 months. Back to work today and had 4 people in the yard buying today alone
2007/8 was some recession ... the couple of years leading up to it were similar .... prices going ballistic ... steel had climbed from £550/t to circa £1250-1300, with some sections up at £1800/t ....When you put it that way, 15 years ago I was paying £11for type1 now it’s £15ish, either they used to make plenty on it at £11 or they are just breaking even at £15…. Who knows but either way prices are here to stay!
my quote was for £18 now for type 1 today delivered 12 miles, at one point I was paying £7.50 8 years ago for it delivered 3 milesWhen you put it that way, 15 years ago I was paying £11for type1 now it’s £15ish, either they used to make plenty on it at £11 or they are just breaking even at £15…. that's over £2,800/t FFS ...... 61.6kg/panel .. was always a premium on fabric mesh but bloody hell, not 100+% ..... that's 1000% outright profiteeringI was quoted late December - A393 Mesh - 4.8m x 2.4m - 23 sheets - £177 per sheet![]()

I know, the wife’s birthday present has just gotten expensive
So they have actually implemented the January price rise to fill effect this time! Glad I filled my yard with as much of it as I could before Xmas!my quote was for £18 now for type 1 today delivered 12 miles, at one point I was paying £7.50 8 years ago for it delivered 3 miles
And as for predictions wheres all the small kit that was going to flood the market when people started paying bounce back ?
I totally understand with everything that you state above. There is only one difference that I see. My worry is currently inflation with all this money printing that has occurred. History would normally tell us that it will lead to inflation. The difference I see is that the money printing is happening all over the world rather than in isolation in an individual country. We know the convention dictates higher interest rates, but I am not convinced the governments have the ability or will to raise them high enough. The collapse is almost certainly coming. Evergrande in China being the start.no question

I was quoting work with a 7 day validity on quotes ... had no idea WTF the prices'd be the following week ....
things started to slow due the cost of everything and work was getting postponed and shelved, but we were all muddling along ......
.... I'd sold my yard, subject to planning/contract in the July and had a big deposit in the solicitor's bank a/c .............
then the press/media started spouting the 'R' word and the whole bloody system collapsed globally .
Virtually everything fell apart, including my yard sale - they went tits up - a national - and things were pretty grim for soooome time ....
when it eventually came back to some sort of normality, two-ish years down the road, steel was back to £650/t and stayed there, or thereabouts, for quite a while. As did a lot of other stuff.
A crash is inevitable ... no question ... current levels of all sorts of things are unsustainable long term ........
as sure as eggs are eggs, the media will be the cause of / catalyst for the next crash, as they have been for most of the previous recessions, going back to the early '80s ...
saw, sat out and survived several, over my biz lifetime ...
keep yer rainy day funds well stuffed and only buy what you need![]()
12% on plasterboard again ffs. Looks to me like its purposely being done to make it go bang. Then the investment companies will come in and buy the repossessions then rent back out.Wheelbarrows are always subject to inflation![]()
Not really, genuinly its never been harder to make a quid here, we have empty real estate costing money with no stock, it sells fast but we are paying way over the odds for it still and making less at the other end. Customers call but you cant sell from a empty shop. We got two dumpers in and sold them without even a advert. I still have no stock. Its trickyYou just can’t buy new anything though! I’m sure you have gained a whole addition of folk to your customer base the last year? I’ve 3 new things on order all of which I’ve no real idea when they are coming!
I've said it since 2019..... things where too good then. The financial stimulus created by Covid Grants created a Bubble in Mid 2020 and before that bubble popped 2020 saw thousands of pounds worth of spending that people couldn't take abroad on holiday...... 2021 has seen money exodusing london at a fair rate and spread around the country.
But 2022..... Early May we will see it hit I suspect........
. The UK is flying compared to others.
