aye .. just spent a couple of hours cleaning the Ajax miller and the Harrison lathe ... all covered in blue crap .. had the chuck off the Harrison and stripped, cleaned, blown out and oiled it all, 'fore lugging the 40kgs of it back on the spindle nose!!

just tripped over a D1-8 320mm 4 jaw on FB MP I'd love to have for it ---- in bloody Lowestoft though - have asked if he'd package it for collection - not heard back yet ... don't 'spose anyone here is anywhere near there ?????

@tinydigger ? far from you mate?

total bargain

very kind offer Dave .... not heard back from the seller yet (as usual:rolleyes:) ... reckon it's gonna to be going 60+kgs, that - at a guess ... cheapest one I've seen (and don't see many at all) ... looks very tidy too, so be worth the shipping cost (in theory anyway) ... will come back to you on it when I get a response

Druid,

I can’t help you on this one in Lowestoft but I have a spare 4 jaw for my Colchester that I’d let go.

It’s in fair condition but it does have one odd jaw which does not match the other three. It works ok but does have different size steps. I had planned to anneal it and make it match the rest but never got around to it and a few weeks ago I got to pick over the workshop on an oil rig and found a loverly Rhône 4 jaw.

can take some pics tomorrow if you might be interested.

I think so. It fits my Colchester Triumph 2500. I’ve been working away for a few days and going to Manchester in the morning.

I’ll get some measurements from the chuck over the weekend.

easiest identifier is the stud size - every one is different and D1-8 is a one inch stud x 6 .. what diameter is it over all Rob?

False alarm I’m afraid Druid.

The one I have here has 0.875 (7/8)” dia pins so that makes it a D1-6.
:cry::cry:
the D1-8 sold next day sadly, but unsurprisingly - didn't even get a reply from the seller :(
there was one closer to home a few months ago ... wanted silly money for it (but again, unsurprisingly - they are NOT cheap) - could never get a reply, even though it was on there for ages and as far as I know didn't sell -- wanted 350 quid for it - lot of bucks for a very occasional use piece of kit -- but when you need it - you need it :oops:
must see if I can find the local one's link - see if it's still there ??

My lathe only had a 3 jaw with one set of jaws when I got it. I could not believe my luck when I got to that oil rig and they said it was all getting scraped as it would cost more than the gear was worth to get it off the rig and 500 miles south to where it might be saleable.

I completely filled the back of my Ranger twice with ‘Swag’. Both chucks from lathe, face plates, steadies, quick change tool post. The lads on site had most of the spanner’s and small stuff but I grabbed as much of the workshop consumables as I could. I think I have a lifetimes supply of emery cloth, grinding disks, bolts, drill bits and welding rods. 😀😀😀

think I found some reversibles that'll fit my 3 jaw on Fleabay t'other night ... must pull a jaw and measure it up - see if the dims match :unsure:
