I don't know what type of ground you're in but it may be an option to use a Bryce Suma with the big rock spike tool that leaves a nice hole for concreting in posts .

They are especially good on lose ground as it compacts the hole edges. Won't fit on a mini digger though!

Watched one go round a piling ring the other day
25mm diameter been disconnected at each end long before
Got over 100 meters on it before the operator backed off as the material wasn't being expelled correctly

Forgive my higorance but WTF is a piling ring??

As we CAT scanned that clay job, my mate and I were joking about how, if we didn't scan, the first thing we'd know about it would be the cable snaking down off the adjaceant pole as it wrapped around the auger underground

was some pix on CEF years ago of a big auger with several hundred metres of bloody big fibre optic bundle wrapped around it in a road verge

I borrowed a hand held one, off a mate, when I put my trellis fence posts in a few years back ... 23 x 8" holes - 3ft deep in less than two hours ... some good, some shaley, some hard packed clay going ... all virginal ground .... worked even better after i touched up the cutting edges with the 5" grinder.
would've been there for a week with a pair of handles .... one on a machine'd be even better .... but was sooooooo much better than a shovel

The auger is hollow and as it retracts pumps concrete into the hole
On top of these more concrete cast on top for the foundation

I was wondering if I could make up something like a clapper spade attachment for the digger. It wouldn't need to be much quicker than digging by hand ,just the saved sweat and wrist arthritis would make it worth while.

I've used one of those hand held petrol augers but it nearly broke my arms every time it hit a stone.

There are clamshell buckets for large diggers for digging shafts etc, but for post holes wih a mini digger an auger is what you need.

aye .. I know what a ring beam on piles is like, but WTF was the 25mm dia. bit???

was a two man jobbie .. one each side and had a clutch for snatches ... worked real well ... did kick a bit on anything hard/solid, but just backed off a touch and went again ... as said did all me holes in double quick time

Just a quick mention to Dr Pecker, borer turned up on Monday as promised, got to use it today but only for one hole, looking forward to getting more out of it as digging them by hand is a ball ache.

Am sure i have seen this asked somewhere before but can’t find it now, would it be possible to weld a saddle onto a auger bit and use the @Engcon UK for the rotation?
