Doing some fencing for wifes horses
I've borrowed a post banger of my mate, anyway there's something wrong with the ram. So I've come up with an idea
I've got a jack hammer for the mini digger its quite a big one probably for a 2.5t. If i put a metal plate on top of post instead of replacing the point with a cup. Does anyone see what problems I'll encounter.
Also the geometry is wrong on the pecker. I would think when i try and get on top of post it will be pointing at 3 o'clock instead of down at 6 o'clock if that makes sense. Maybe take the crowd pin out, also i could operate it left on the trailer to gain some height

Whats wrong with the ram post knocker rams can give strange symptoms if the tractors spools arnt set up for them

It was working. Its only a tiny ram. Its quite a clumbersom thing to use. I was just try to utilise the stuff I've got

I dug them in, then hit them down with the maul. Had some help aswell

I've had the exact same conundrums as you.

Easiest soloution that I found to is to date a bird who doesn't do horses....

But seriously, even a properly set up mini digger pecker with a driving cup and a bottom monting bracket is f****ng useless for posts. Been there, got the t-shirt. Don't waste your time even thinking about it. There was a bloke on the old forum who used to auger and then pecker them in. That's double the time, it's stupid. And still not as good, as you're effectively removing most of the earth rather than forcing the post tight against it.

I bought a second hand mini digger knocker for £1600 (which was probably well over the odds, seen them cheaper since). But it's brilliant for line posts (much quicker than a tractor and one man operation), and great for medium strainers in fairly easy ground. Makes a lot of money on small fencing jobs. I charge a premium rate and take all the stuff there in one trip. I still hate fencing however.

There's no substitute for giving them a bloody hard wallop!

That breaker idea is somthing people do, some places sell a post rammer pin with notches in the end to help grip the post

Suppose I'm not going to be doing much fencing so I thought utilise the pecked. Does anyone know the best place to get a cup and how much would it be.

Weld won't last five minutes under the pecker I'm afraid. The cups are quite expensive because they are lathe turned from a big billet of steel and taper fit.

Yeah the weld didn't last 5 minutes. Ha.
I was just seeing if it would do it and it did work and i would think miles easier/quicker with a cup. Seen some prices £250 . Bit more than i thought £150-£200 was what i thought

Paul peacock in Hereford is where I got my side mounted breaker bracket & post driving cup from to convert an existing breaker i had, 8 inch posts fit in it with a 60mm lip to hold them in.
