jcb must spend a fair bit on advertising, didn't they reckon 1 min advert on itv at 9pm was £1m or something silly like that back in the day

with social media now its more targeted so show budgets I guess come under advertising and I guess their reaching out on socials with ppl like Jcb girl operator ben etc to the younger generation, didn't they have some clown called Dave about being an owner opp haha.

Are they still doing the "influencer days"

some big wigs will have decided shows don't add up etc, is nice to see kit like at hill head etc and sit in it talk to ppl but might not resulting in direct sales so hard to justify that budget expense when its not directly relatable to sales through dealers months or years later.

It’s what I do!
I've been told by an exhibitor that alcohol has been strictly banned.... make of that what you will.

I will be there Tuesday and Wednesday at least. It takes time to film stuff for YouTube and also look at things you want to for your own business, so I'm doing two days. Also happy to sign autographs for beers.... Oh wait - there's no beer...... bummer!
Not even in the car park! 😊

JCB will make the bulk of their money through fleet deals. One of my groundwork customers has a load of their machines, won’t buy anything else, and said they gave him an incredible finance package in the early days of his business that allowed him to expand much more quickly than he’d have otherwise been able to. They have looked after him from day 1 and continue to do so, and he keeps spending big money with them!
I know another fella who has a relatively new plant hire business and he’s got a couple of new JCB telehandlers (amongst a varied manufacturer fleet). He’s been flown to the factory in a JCB helicopter and wined/dined by them - they can see future sales potential no doubt…
They know how to get the big sales and look after the big customers - shows are incredibly expensive and attract every knobhead brand-basher under the sun. Any sales they might miss through not being at Plantworks are almost definitely inconsequential in the larger scheme of things - it’s a marketplace for smaller and more niche manufacturers to put their products onto the consumer’s radar in the first place really (the big boys are already there!).

I didn’t get paid a penny!! I did get free roam in the shop but I was polite and only grabbed afew bits and bobs! (Could have filled the car boot up if I wanted!) I did get offered a new website/marketing/logo design but I was happy with what I already had so turned It down.
Don’t know what level of ‘funding’ the new era of social media influencers are getting these days but it’s obviously worth while to keep them on side.. hasn’t one of them got over 500k followers?

Exactly why bother exhibiting if your biggest customers aren't there and all the folk that do come are slagging off your paint work 😂

I did the 3 days of Plantworx this year with Rototilt again, and it was defiantly quieter than other years. although the "quality" of visitor was good. By this I mean that pretty much everyone I spoke to was genuinely interested. Its a strange one though, I see these shows dying a bit! I'm not sure what it is, possibly with SM people feel they don't need to go. If you only want to see what's new, then you will see it all on your phone anyway from various posters!
That said, I think the big boys should make an effort! The Chinese certainly did!

Another point I did notice, a lot of visitors where based south UK, I mean I would say most were within in a 3 hour drive or so! There was of coarse people from further afield but not as many as other years

Amy someone or other? She’s on onlyfans…..? 🤔
No not her that’s digger girl got 162k followers, funny thing is if was a bloke posting stuff she does be 5k. Fair play to her carving out niche while working for her dads plant hire firm. Seems an ok operator in stuff she posts.

Think rototilt done her a free or cheap roto recently was on their stand at hillhead, she’s partners with flat broke sandy who my hgv driving mate tells me is big in trucking world. They take a shipping container with them to shoes to sell merch fair play on milking that gravy train.

Unrelated is

Mo Duncan know as weelassie daughter of plant hire guy in Scotland who has lots of big working horses Clydesdales but she’s been working in the mines in aus for few years. Recently had boob job and done only fans which bought her new hilux and kobelco setup. Seems to have cleared out her digger account now just her other job.

Im No expert though lol 😂

She used to just put up vids of operating which where really good but now she has taken to just dancing Infront of machinery. A little bit sad tbh all though obviously she is making money at it.

JCBs absence from these sorts of events seems odd, However, I wonder if they have sat down with some stats and a calculator and realised that attending such events just simply doesn’t pay.
Unless you have a stand selling ice creams or burgers then I think you are lucky to take orders at shows like Plantworks. Yes I’m sure some of the smaller kit gets orders, attachments and the like, even then I’d question if the sums add up and how many of those orders would have found their way anyway, but how many machines or substantial purchases get made on the day?
Yes there will be leads from a show that turn into sales, but can they definitely be attributed to the fact the manufacturer exhibited a particular event?
Most of us would probably think twice about just the transport cost of getting kit to Plantworks for the Takeuchi stand for example, they had a lot on display and the whole event must have cost a pretty penny to attend. I wonder how many machine orders were taken over the three days on that stand?
JCB may have just realised that they don’t need to be at these shows to promote their products and keep the order books full. Short sighted? Maybe? But it might just be maths and good business….
Factor in the wages overnight costs for the reps etc it must be a big chunk of money

Don't complain - suggest what's better
When you hear on the grapevine how much it costs a small exhibitor to be at these events you can see why the big boys pass. Especially if everyone else is not going as well, and you can't tell me they don't chat.
Is anyone actually swayed to buy a certain brand by them being at a plant show?

If it’s going to be the only opportunity to see said size/spec of machine and directly compare to others all in one place , I’d say yes?
But then if your serious you go and drive to where said machines are to give them a try.. I spent days driving around different dealers when I was buying my 6Ton machine. Good job I did as all machines need to be driven not just looked at in a brochure!
