Hi .
You don’t need to put it in the channel at all .
You can put it on the ground above if you like . Just use a wee boat level to level up your block on a bit of sand and have the block pointing in the direction you want to go . Put the laser on top of it and type in your gradient . Then dig down in front of it to the depth you require . When your dig depth is perfect put a vertical stick on the bottom of the trench and mark the point the laser hits it . This is now your traveller . Carry on digging and when your mark in the stick lines up with your laser then your at the right height . If you want 50mm bedding put a mark 50mm lower on the stick and then use it to regulate your bedding height .

Hi vin, I have done it like this in the past and worked well. I just wondered if the same crack if in the manhole, set on a pin for centre off manhole with the block set on invert. Thanks for your reply

Are you planning using the target in the pipe ? If so you can do what you’re doing but you’d probably want to play about with it first . My one has interchangeable legs for different pipe sizes so the laser is in the centre of the pipe . If you want to do that you’d probably want to try the target in the pipe at the manhole first and you could adjust the block accordingly with a bit of sand . What size pipes are you laying ? What laser are you using ?

Well I was going to put the laser on a block get the pipe in using the target and both ends to make sure it’s straight put back fill on it to hold it and get laying

That’ll work . The advantage of using the target will be that your pipe run will be arrow straight . Why can’t you put the laser inside the pipe though ? You can use your pin in the centre to pull a line to give you direction for your first pipe then once you get the first pipe in place eye the direction in from your pin centre adjust the laser left or right to aim in a straight line then adjust the first pipe to come into line with laser and away you go

Yeah I see what saying vin, I just thought it would be easier to get level and line right with larger pipes, 600+.What do you reckon

The benefit of putting the laser in the pipe is you don’t need to feck about with getting your block at the right height , having said that you will need to manually set the height of the first pipe if you do put the laser in it so it’s really up to you . Just take a bit of time getting set up whichever way you do it as once you get it set up right your away then .
