I am not aware of this exemption. Most trailers would be under 1020 kg unladden.

You have the question answered already. Trailer is under 1020kg so can run outside of O licence

A long time ago. Its on old VOSA docs as well as DVSA docs so a good few years ago.

That's kinda when i was thinking it must have been. Cumbria police used to have a group of about 8 traffic officers they gave a special title to and pretty much let them have free reign as to what they wanted to do. About 06 to 08 ish they got an obsession for vans/pickups and trailers towing and being over MAM. They pretty much overloaded courts round here trying to do everyone they could for no o license etc even with empty trailers. I was just thinking i wonder if this update was after that which it would be by the looks.

I seem to remember being “talked to” back in early 2000’s when I had an empty 3.5ton plant trailer behind a Freelander which had a tow limit or 2ton. I thought at the time it was stupid that I could be done for theoretical overloading!!

All died a death because private individuals actually fight things as opposed to corporate entities which throw you under the bus and pay the fine.... I know a lot of cases got pushed to court with weighbridge tickets and the argument that a 24t artic tractor unit can tow a 44t plated empty trailer....... Shame the Corporate haulage industry won't push things to court.

Wasn't part of the problem that the authorities would happily hand out fines and points but when challenged in court they would withdraw the case ?
A few of the people I spoke to about running mini-artics found it a lot of hassle.
Being a member of a trade association looks a good idea when pushing the limits

so restricted radius from operating base then - is it still 6 miles?? ..... and presumably would need to be an integral part of the operation on site on arrival too ?
can't see that Uni being far short of the 6t either if not over it ? guaranteed at least a tonne over 'fore he turns a wheel then ......
Russ was relating a tale to me the other day of a 'mate' of his runs BIG JDs an' trailers, who is now having to buy tri-axles, 'cos the big floaties on the twin axles keep blowing out .... hardly surprising when they're going over the weighbridge at in excess of 50, yes 50 tonnes .... if anyone needs the book dropping on 'em from a great height it'd be that guy (and all his like)
