Stop pissing about with your pick-ups and buy a little wagon
if only ........ poxy O license kills that for most folks over here Kev ..... plus the BE/ C requirement
I am obviously not being clear here.Every commercial vehicle I have driven has axle limits totaling more than the mam.
Even a twin wheel transit has 2.5t+ back axle and 1.5t front axle
Renault 8 wheelers can have axle weights of upto 55t
I am obviously not being clear here.
I know axle limits can be higher than the mam ect. Thats not what I was trying to say.
The trailer is plated to 7300kg.
Even if Vehicle is down plated to 3500kg a BE licence still cant tow it as the trailer is plated to more than the E allows on a post 19-01-2013 licence.
Down plating both would leave bugger all payload.
Not often i bother with the trailer nowadays.. maybe first time its been out of shed this year and it reminds what à pita trailers and ramps are.if only ........ poxy O license kills that for most folks over here Kev ..... plus the BE/ C requirement
I think you are right. Trailers and pick ups are a pain. At least with my Iveco i have 7ton to play with. I want to go up in size but cant really justify the expense of O license. Not often i bother with the trailer nowadays.. maybe first time its been out of shed this year and it reminds what à pita trailers and ramps are.
I know its not straight forward but seriously when people talk about "game changers" which most of them aren'tgoing from 4x4 to something like that really is .... it isnt the first time ive posted up my little wagon setup I know and I should prob stop ..but I did the pickup thing for many years and this type of setup is so much easier ... every day.
Maybe we are more fortunate here with législation but I would nearly wrap up before go back to pickup.
It really must be difficult over there for people to choose another way.
Anyway ignore me and crack on.
It would be nice to run a heavier vehicle but I don't have a yard and don't think could absorb the costs associated with renting space off someone with a spare hgv slot plus all the extra costsNot often i bother with the trailer nowadays.. maybe first time its been out of shed this year and it reminds what à pita trailers and ramps are.

I wait in hope for the sense in what you say to become a reality.O license is a system from a archaic era when people struggled to maintain Commer Karriers...... The basic idea is to force those that wish to run a vehicle over 3.5t to be registered, have financial ability to look after it and to have the paperwork in order to keep things right.
Reality is back in the late 60's when it appeared it was a good idea....... There where a abundance of small lorries, little outfits and no one had a issue getting a License to run a single wagon..... the Dodge 50, Karriers, Ford D series among others where just put on licenses and kept working.
Of course all good things come to a end..... the rise of the pickup, better vans and of course the use of ubiquitous tractor trailers have got better and faster since the late 80's.
IMHO O licensing wants to catch up... Raise the Weight limit for tacho exemptions to 13 or 15t and allow such lorries to hold a Restricted + Limited license with a Maximum radius from a defined base, 6 monthly MOT tests and defined parking area.
Won't happen though
Its a pay wall bringing red tape and more checks, fines are also apparently far heavier if overloadedI know very little about o licence as I used landrover and trailer in uk .... im sure its been said before but looks like o licence serves to ensure everyone runs around overweight or on the limit and dangerous at times.

Yep I agree re à 13/15t wagon and im going that route next but at least with a 7.5t you have the actual capacity to run légal with a 2.8t machine and its kit and a 7.5t modestly overloaded is a much safer setup than à pickup and trailer on or over its limit. It's only a Pay wall if you view it wrong.... same with the Overloading.
Most people buy a 7.5t lorry and load it till its 9t...... that 1.5t of extra s**t will get your license revoked, lorry impounded and the O license in Disrepute/binned.
The actual trick is to buy the biggest lorry you can (13t is often no bigger than a 7.5t) a 13t basic tipper will carry around 5-6t..... as opposed to 3-3.5t on a 7.5t lorry.....Tax is the same as is in reality the license (unless your a old twat)
.Tax is the same as is in reality the license (unless your a old twat)
Which is exactly what I said.......Trailer Plating has no correspondence on license type..... particularly if you passed your B+E Pre 2013 where the DVLA specifically say you can dray any weight trailer......
Quite how it would pan out now post B+E license is another thing.... But at a guess provided you leave your ramps at home you will be fine.
You know that and iveco (unless it's a 4x4) you can only run at 3.5t unless on an O license. Everything over 3.5t needs it unless you have exemption like the 4x4 pickup does as it's a special vehicle somehow.I think you are right. Trailers and pick ups are a pain. At least with my Iveco i have 7ton to play with. I want to go up in size but cant really justify the expense of O license.
Wont the 4x4 Iveco daily be over 2040kg unladen? You know that and iveco (unless it's a 4x4) you can only run at 3.5t unless on an O license. Everything over 3.5t needs it unless you have exemption like the 4x4 pickup does as it's a special vehicle somehow.
Possibly, I don't know the detail. A fair few are running round with vans and dropside pickups towing trailers with plant on and in that configuration you need an O-licence to be over 3.5t grossWont the 4x4 Iveco daily be over 2040kg unladen?
Not if trailer is under 1020kg unladen.Possibly, I don't know the detail. A fair few are running round with vans and dropside pickups towing trailers with plant on and in that configuration you need an O-licence to be over 3.5t gross
