The case is being updated.
The police moved out around 04:00 on Wednesday night to a major quick clay landslide in a residential area in the center of Ask in Gjerdrum on Romerike in Viken county.
The number of people who have not been accounted for has been adjusted down from 26 to 15 people. Wednesday night, the number is adjusted to 12.
Of these, children are not accounted for.
The police inform NRK.
The 12 are people who live at addresses within the landslide area.
So far no finds have been made and no one has been confirmed dead.
- We are looking for survivors, not dead. Medical personnel will advise us with regard to temperature and how long people can survive, and when we may start searching for the dead, says Roger Pettersen, operations manager in the police.
The searches are only done by helicopter because it is too dangerous for rescue personnel to enter the area.
700 have been reported as evacuated, but on Wednesday afternoon the mayor states that there will be more, 1500 people in total.
- Several are evacuated. NVE defines a larger area as unsafe. SMS alerts have been sent out and people who live further towards the center of Ask will be evacuated. It is likely that 1500 will be evacuated, says Anders Østensen.
In this area the landslide occurred. There are several houses in the area.
New breed
As recently as 15.30, several houses collapsed.
- There are several houses that have gone down in the red zone, but these are evacuated homes, says the task leader on the spot. And

The red zone is the most exposed area and that is where it is most dangerous to travel. There are helicopters with bright lights searching the area. In addition, the helicopters have heat-seeking cameras.
- The darkness presents challenges, but we will light up the place with light sources as far as possible, but there will be a limitation, says Pettersen.
NVE has warned early on that there may be more landslides.
- Along the avalanches that have gone, there is still a risk that it may erupt more in the back. Therefore, the evacuation is very crucial to maintain until more is known about the stability in the area. This is a large area we are talking about, says Toril Hofshagen, regional manager in the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate.
Geologists are working from a Sea King helicopter in the air for a closer assessment of landslide development. They are also working on drilling rigs to take ground investigations and delimit the evacuated areas as best as possible, she says.

A larger area has been evacuated during the day because they are afraid of several landslides.
As mentioned earlier, exploration crews cannot enter the area for that reason.
- We do not know when we can physically enter the area. We just have to relate to that and listen to the experts. As we are informed that we can let our rescue crews in, we will do this, Pettersen said.
