Re the Cornish lorry

We are currently working by the bus turn around lay-by on the old collapsed road by Mamtor and castelton basically the only place you can spin a long vehicle rd in the entire 10 mile long valley.

There are effectively 3 routes from Sheffield to Manchester snake pass currently shut, hope valley which takes you up winnats pass of top gear much used fame.(narrow steep 7.5 ton limit) and the truck route via Tideswell and peak Forrest A6

As snake is shut they’re diverting ppl onto the the hope valley one and then there is a rd mid point in valley up to A6 to get over to Manchester side.

Junction is well sign posted clearly says no 7.5 ton 5 miles ahead unsuitable for 32ft plus etc

We are getting 6-8 wagons a day who make it to our dead end to turn around because “I was following sat nav on my phone” or then thy ask if they’ll get up winnats despite it being 7.5 ton.

Means they’ve had to snake through castelton which is tight and a big S section in the middle of it with load of tourists and cars

Also annoying there is an expect for access part to the 7.5 ton limit as there is a mine experience place at the bottom of winnats on the flatish bit before it gets steep and narrow so drivers seem to think that means if there going to Manchester etc they’re ok to use it. Was blocked few days ago by 6 wheeler cargo who was spun out on the top steep bit.

Are professional drivers that bad nowadays?

Wonder who paid ? Not exactly an accident ? Reckon insurance coughed up?
Yeah insurance claim apparently 🤣 fair old operation with all the bods in high Viz and power being turned off etc due to cram proximity. All caused a lot drama as you might expect!- the only one who seemed to control his excitement was the crane operator from what I could tell.

Yep several humpback bridges round here must have stonemasons paid on retainer . Almost every time I go past some orange barriers are accross another but of damaged stone work. Dunno who the culprits are but they're idiots- a few have CCTV now- not sure if they ever catch them or not

I'm in the area end of October I'll have to visit it. Went to Hardnott pass in the lakes last year and was a bit disappointed if I'm honest.
Try it when it's frozen...it's nice and quiet.
Memorable trip one winters morning as a keen 17 year old in a golf TDI with low profiles...tbf we got about half way and ended up abandoning it and walking to our climb after an interesting reverse descent with some spectacular rear drifting on the glass ice

I'm surprised you found Hardknott a disappointment, when I first put the auto box into my Isuzu 4BD1T powered land rover and at the NFUs suggestion fitted cross drilled vented discs with carbon kevlar pads it seemed to me that a visit to the Duddon Valley would be a good idea to test fade resistance. At first light it was hugely entertaining doing back to back runs before anyone else was out to get in the way , .....even got a few good comments in the Seathwaite pub from the local farmers 😁

Haha. Yeah fair play- be a different place in ice. There was another very steel hill coming out of Ulpha(?). Some poor soul had got halfway up with a collapsible caravan in tow and burnt the clutch out and no one could get past. Me and brother in law had to try and reverse it down the hill to a point where it could turn round-half the village had turned out to watch it seemed🤪

That'll be the one between Duddon Bridge and Ulpha , used to really quite funny seeing people struggling to get round corners with cars and camping trailers only to be followed by a six wheeler timber waggon towing a trailer 🤣

It was the hill that goes up out of Ulpha as if your heading towards eskdale. Steep bit with some nice corners too

Up past the Travellers Rest, don't remember it being that bad.
The bridge in Ulpha has something of a reputation for capturing lorries, the hump back bridge leading into a right hand bend let's them go up the valley but not back down 🤔😁

Yeah up past travellers rest. Not as steep as hardknott but certainly a fair drag compounded with the corners which seem to catch the caravans out

Tourist routes ...pah 😆😆😆.

I go corney fell...as a bit quieter in high season.
But all lovely roads on a quiet morning or evening
Coming back over the tops in summer after a day in wasdale as the sun sets is magical.

Best is some fool faffing about in a car and you toot them out the way and blast past with loaded ifor in tow.👋👋

Try the proper stuff tho .. Breast high in winter sets the men from the boys
