They aren’t bad trucks but the cabs rot badly, and the engines are prone to overheating/dying as the cooling pack is very low and prone to blocking/damage. Rear brake disk replacement require new (expensive) hub seals too. And the synchros in the gearbox also fail - you’ll know immediately if you drive one if this is a problem.
DPFs are a nightmare for blocking too - they need regular long runs and don’t like to be left idling.
They do carry weight very well with updated springs (will survive multiple 6 tonne gross loadings…)

I’ve no personal experience of those I’m sorry. Have had Toyota Dyna also, which are a very strong truck but tiny in the cab.

I've an m57 engine here but I've not the time or knowledge to convert anything but I've seen a transit converted and some defenders

A mate of mine is a mechanic for a local tree surgeon outfit. Last time I called i think he said all their smaller trucks are now Fusos and spoke quite highly of. Most of their kit is pretty new mind.

I can see why the m57 is used.
I suppose the ajv8 is rather a juicy lump so probably more a very custom job to a vehicle rather than making a daily driver better.

so forgive my lack of knowledge, but WTF is an M57 ???? Mazda TD?? had one in a 110 Landy once (Mazda TD) and was a great motor

never driven a diesel version, but the 3l petrol sixes were a nice drive
