OK guys .... opinions sought ...
Thomas @T whiting flagged up this the other night .....

have had a couple of conversations and he comes across well.

A deal has been negotiated with which I'm happy ... or I was 'til I looked at his feedback ... and some of his other stuff, sold previously .... waaaaaaaay too cheap and a certain buyer keeps cropping up on the too cheap items ... some of 'em are 10% of what they're worth ... was he building a feedback profile? or just a mate bidding?? been on there two years.

am now in a bit of a quandry ... the neg feedback he has (two) could just be a sour grapes job ... or could be genuine????
he's sold a couple of items off his current list of items listed and they too were a 'good' price .. as is this ... not cheap but not dear either .. have seen these making £6k ..... his listing is well populated with decent quality pix ... as are all his other listings

's a 400-450 mile round trip for me to eyeball ... and Pam'd go nuts if I mooted a trip to darkest Yorkshire

will have a further conversation and see how he wants to play 'the transaction' .... he's quoted me a delivered price, which is, as I say, acceptable ... I will also be needing a biz name/address, etc. from him as he professes to be a dealer .. his listings do support the claim ... but as said ... some of his previous prices are absurdly cheap ... if they're genuine i'm crying in me coffee here for the bargains missed :(:cry:o_O
if he moots a C.O.D. job, I'll probably run with it
anyone's thoughts / opinions will be gratefully received
Looks legit and tidy to me.
Lot of these folk don't have mega feedback as they just use eBay to "advertise" anyone who ran a 2k machine through eBay fee system is crackers. You call em and do the deal the proper way .
Had a nice experience week or two back with gumtree , spotted a lovely Stihl 661 but looked a tad iffy. Got his number turned out was mate of a mate and straight as a die and was in my truck 2 hrs later minter👌 so you can never tell till you get on the blower.

It said 15 miles from me on eBay I can go have a poke on Saturday after a site visit I've got to do in the morning I'm not 100% at what I'd be looking at but I do have half a idea.

I wouldn't be overly worried about one negative feedback but like was said above I wouldn't be putting a £2000 purchase through ebay

little up date .... spoken with the seller a couple of times today ..... to sort a delivery (y)... no mention of money/payment, or wanting it up front ... offered him a deposit by BACS to 'show intent' but no ... C.O.D. is fine  ... gives me confidence ... again comes across as a decent fella ... we'll see next Tuesday lunchtime, when John arrives with the lathe. :giggle:

So big shout out to Thomas @T whiting for the flag up(y):giggle::cool: ... and as I said, Mr Mog too, for offering to inspect, pay for, collect and deliver to me, but he agreed, with the deal I'd sorted, he'd be hard pushed to see anything out of it ..... Next time Paul ;):) and thank you guys both

No worries, it's a good job your not closer or I'd be over to borrow it.

I just hope I didn't miss out on the mill that says it sold for £250

worse than that he had a Kingsland 55t punch that supposedly sold for Ca. 5% of it's worth at 250 quid:oops::oops: ...... gutted  ... I'll ask him when he's here what they did sell for ... can see it being some sort of 'cover story' for ebay to keep 'em sweet/onside for his advertising .... seems to get some interesting stuff and will be going in my saved sellers/searches lists (y) ...... his press table is winking ;) at me too ... the ram's a bit of a joke on it currently, but the frame'd cost a few bob to build .... make a nice press/splitter with a few mods

Yes but Ive no real use for one not that I really have use for a vertical mill it would probably just sit rusting in the workshop

cheaper/better? @V8Druid
It's a D, S & G Jim ..... they don't come any better ...... had a similar model type 17, but smaller mandrel for a couple of years ... so accurate and a pleasure to use .... I will be very surprised if that doesn't make £2+K .... and will be watching it ... in case ;) ... it's a beaut and a bigger mandrel

a 55t punch for 250 quid is the stuff of dreams Thomas ...
my 115XS Kingsland cost me £15k in the mid 90s ... admittedly a universal metalworker ... but 250 quid FFS :cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

a major job to repaint a machine tool and have it look right ... lots of filling and fettling, once they get chipped ... I like to see them in their working clothes LL
the plan is hoik it off the lorry on the hook and sit it outside a box, stick the forks on and find the COG with a hook off a lift bar on two closely spaced forks and lift it into the space i've made for it in the box ...fork tips or just short of them should cope with 2.25t ... just... otherwise .. lift it 2/3rds the way in ... skates under the tailstock end and lift the headstock end in with the forks and a couple of slings on the lift lugs and either 'rocker' it off the skate on pivot blocks at the tail end or just toe jack it down .. pretty sure it'll lift in OK TBH

that'll test the QH/forks theories :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: ... but with the safety pin in, you'd have to gas it out :ROFLMAO:😂

Once you've seen a transformer lifted into a substation you realise how heavy things can be moved with no headroom.

If it's only going just inside a door it should be easy enough

amazing what you can shift with skates and jacks :giggle:

put this into my workshop many years ago ... 32 ton .. tandem lift off in the yard at the doorway with two of my 25 tonners ... and skated it about 70 ft into position .... the front apron was 3+ ft in the floor ...

Picture_0125.JPG

14ft tall, 12ft long and 8ft deep .. front apron was 5t ...
Picture_0137.JPG

took it apart to get it out when I cleared my yard in '14

held the 'machinery deck' with the 4t Hyster while i took the end frames away

2014-04-11 14.11.19.jpg

had a bit of help from me mate Doug - Monaro man - had a stroke 'bout two years ago and never recovered properly
2014-04-11 14.11.29.jpg

made those particular skates for a job shifting a load of 14t Stehoj presses for a company i did a lot of machinery shifting and installation for

2014-04-11 14.40.25.jpg

was half a ton of hydraulic in it :rolleyes: .... worth more in the skip than as a machine ... transporting it anywhere, as a lump, killed the value :(

would bend 12ft of 1/2" plate into anything up to a right angle , 8ft of 16mm plate and/or 5 ft of 20mm plate .... 320 tons pressure
