To be entirely honest why do we need so much horse power.
I use to tow 3.5t with my mk2 ranger at 110hp less whatever had escaped over the years. Plenty of defenders and discoverys still trundling around with similar horse power. And tbh I think they tow at a safe speed. My "gutless" 2.4 Hilux will get you in plenty of trouble with a trailer on.

Whilst it's quite fun driving things like disco 5's with 300hp it's a bit unnecessary.

No I think I just drive like an old fart. Plus I live in Surrey the land of the average speed camera. They have reduced all the speed limits something chronic. Tbh those Indian motorbike based pickups are more than adequate.

Well a fully loaded truck/trailer could just about get up to my old yard in 2nd gear , without a run up it was down to 1st.. so more power was always a welcome addition!

I prefer to slap it into low range and pretend I'm a tractor . Gives me plenty of time to muse over how I'm going to spend the £60k I've saved from buying a new truck.

Old diesels/turbo diesels just seem like they have raw power and torque. Modern stuff may have more but if you’re in a manual and get caught off boost it takes some getting going again!

Slow and steady wins the race.
More power would get me into far more trouble than it will ever get me out of.

nice colour -- Hilman/Routes group/Chrysler used to have a colour like that called Grasshopper Green ..
used to have a 1725 Hunter GLS with the 120 Holbay engine in it, that colour -- I put an overdrive box in it out of a Humber Sceptre ..
worked in 3rd and top .. gave a nice split on 3rd to 4th with a switch in the stick top -- very fast car in its day (1976/7) -- OAX 234M ...
Nott.s plod used to use them - wasn't a whole lot that could outrun them back then - would 125mph in 4th at redline .. and would pull it too

It’s all locked up some motor and they stopped marking them at the end of last year. Hoping for appreciation
