FWD thenI’m fancying a new-ish crafter or tga for my next van. Just don’t know wether to look at fwd or rwd as won’t be towing much and probably not running at full weight.

Anything over 3.5t plus a 750kg trailer falls under bigger rules unless you qualify for exemptions. Own goods with a trailer under 1020kg? Not for hire and reward and within certain radius (100k) etc etc. o-licence and tacho/driver rules / licence rules / vehicle towing limits all come into play .I've still got it in my head you can't drive over 3.5t without an operators license unless it's a special purpose vehicle, like 4x4 pickup or something. Am I wrong with this![]()
I think you are thinking tacho rules not operators licence!!Within 100k radius if I recall correct
Yes at under 1029kg it's small trailer exemption so no o license as long as it's not for hire or reward, also correct for the no tacho part.Anything over 3.5t plus a 750kg trailer falls under bigger rules unless you qualify for exemptions. My little hiab trailer weighs more than that the 1029kg. I tow it round behind my dual purpose extended cab pickup which weighs less than 2040kg from factory?? So technically I’m okay (I think) as that’s another exemption .Yes at under 1029kg it's small trailer exemption so no o license as long as it's not for hire or reward, also correct for the no tacho part.
You can in both cases collect plant for use on your job as long as driving the vehicle isn't your only job, so you collect the machine and drop to site and use the machine for your work
I get muddled with tacho/operators licence rules. I try to stay away from both!I think you are thinking tacho rules not operators licence!!

But if they don't charge delivery?this doesn't sound right
" Example 3 - The digger is rented by you, the owner of the digger is the user of the vehicle (they deliver to site for you to use). You use the digger on the site. This transport is done on the "own account" of the digger renting company and they do not need an operator’s licence. "
the company delivering their digger on hire is doing it for reward surely ???
still being rewarded by the hire of the machine .... no delivery, no hireBut if they don't charge delivery?
In that example you are exempt for operators licience as it is your own goods.this doesn't sound right

Glass half full not half empty pls gra. I know how I'm reading it.still being rewarded by the hire of the machine .... no delivery, no hire... pretty grey that and can bet the delivery is covered by the rate
I’m transporting oil tanks that we supply and install so that’s own goods. If I’m doing a pick and lift for someone then I’m breaking the rules
no such thing as free delivery .... it's paid for somewhere down the line .... and we all know thatGlass half full not half empty pls gra. I know how I'm reading it.
Maybe so but as far as I'm concerned I'm gonna work on the charging for the digger hire not the delivery.no such thing as free delivery .... it's paid for somewhere down the line .... and we all know that![]()
so you do self drive machine hire Gaz?Maybe so but as far as I'm concerned I'm gonna work on the charging for the digger hire not the delivery.
There's about half a dozen folk i trust but it's not very often tbh. By the time you work out the time lost on your own job it's barely worth the hassle. It often ties into jobs I'm doing and saves my doing scratty bits mind so not all bad.so you do self drive machine hire Gaz?
