first ones were a mk4 Cortina cab ... got a mate who was building a Sierra bodied one onto an XR4 x 4 gear ... not seen him in a while to see how it is going

They came later. First ones were Cortina and the only engine option was the Pinto lump.Were they not a sierra front? Very characteristic engine note...

Well spotted. The car next to the "ute" is the giveaway - We never got the full length wind down windows. Ours never got past the 'half glass' with quarter vents.
