Had a few hours on it today fitted the small rollers that stop it from moving fore and aft
BEACDA7F-1E64-42A1-A7F6-AAA50BFCA542.jpeg

Fitted the water pipe down the middle of the trommel which can be removed so I can lift the drum off
32424B88-A650-4F22-A2F5-A7C24E2FC02A.jpeg
then folded some plate to form the hopper

And this is how I left it tonight, waiting for some punch plate to arrive now

I assume you're waiting for 'the yard' to get some suitable perforated plate in Mog .... ain't bloody cheap if you're having to buy it by the sheet, new

I have a few sets of proper curved punch plates for large trommels but the wrong size holes for its first job
Got some coming 3mm plate with 16mm holes Ā£500 to do the job, so so far it’s cost under Ā£1k to get this far, as I only pay myself Ā£1.00 per hour (it’s all I’m worth) will be a cheap trommel, I priced one earlier in the year, they wanted Ā£10k for one that wasn’t as strong

good price for the perf. plate Boyo(y) and yeh ..... trommels seem to be bloody pricey where ever you look

Had a day on it today:)
made a big washer to weld on the end of the drum to stop the material from falling out from the start of the trommel

Then made the exit shoot so the material can clear the frame that holds the wash bar up

On a side note I made these the other day
This one from a 20 ton jack with a 14ā€ throat
2FBDC8A4-04D4-489B-81DE-1CF704360AC1.jpeg

This one made from a 5 ton jack but is two stage with a threaded part as well, both clamps close right up
2B84FBCC-ABFC-41A3-873F-7BD78324FFAA.jpeg

And this one I found the cast part in the scrap and mated it with a 10 ton portapower ram which also came from the ā€˜pile’

But the best find in working order and with a hydraulic bead breaker was this air powered 10,000 psi pump

like it .... this one looks suspiciously like an old handheld punch frame , but may be a bit light ..... bloody great idea though Mog ... do you ever use tags and wedges ... very handy for really getting it tight

I like to think I use every trick in the book  yea the clamp pictured above was probably a punch as the porta power ram thread was different had to split the clamp thread and opened it up by 3/8ā€ then managed to screw the ram in then weld it back up, it seems to work as it will stall the air powered pump;)

Had a few hours to kill again
Had to bend some 10mm thick plate which was only 100mm wide and the folder I made previous wasn’t up to the job so made this to go under the press
3F58E5C3-41F8-4F88-8BE2-D530970376A0.jpeg

So I could put a little crease in these they are going to clamp the punch plate to the drum
FE48982C-F032-4A1A-8D28-1576D78C32AB.jpeg
Had to pump the press to 45 ton just to get that bit of bend:eek:

27.66 T/ft required to air bend 12mm plate over an 8:1 die Mog so not surprised you had to get up to 45 over that width of air bend die - did well TBH to bend it at that(y) --- my old Bronx brake press was 320t with a max. cap. of 12 ft of 1/2" plate over a 4" die at 90degs .... got a table for air bending requirements some where, on 43A plate;)

Got the punch plate yesterday and got it rolled to the profile of the drum and managed to get them bolted on so this is the main build done I think

Will be trying it out on Monday to clean a few ton of ceramic balls that come from an aluminium smelter, there is still a bit to do yet need to make a control box with a speed control for the drum, a electric powered hydraulic pump to raise the tipper and will have to cover the rotating drum for safety
May even paint it if it works as good as it should

Surely you’ve ticked the safety box with that yellow and black hazard tape?...

Been a bit busy on other work to get to the trommel job:cry: but pictures to follow
Anyway was asked by a fellow member to build him something, and found a few ingredients for the job

Can you tell what it’s going to be..............not you Grahams🤐 but may need you to post a picture of it up as didn’t take any pictures of it finished:cry:
Forgot about this job @Grahams wanted me to make something to take the power out of a blower that sucks up rubber chips to clean it, as when the rubber exists the blower it goes everywhere bouncing about, so I came up with a cyclone made from the above mixer drum which I lined with stainless steel, didn’t get to test it properly myself as the pipe didn’t arrive on time and as I was taking Grahams machine back down south it made sense that the cyclone and stand went with it, but had a report back saying it work ok (or was he just being polite) and the air tank? that made the 8ā€ inlet pipe(y)

Okay, okay, I’ll do some pictures and you can see it is good. I’ve been a bit busy. Hope to have two jobs for it in January, but neither will be okay with photos on site. One lot are completely paranoid. Have to go through security vetting, then when you get there have to hand in all phones, cameras, radios and binoculars and then have a security guard escort us at all times.

Well had a tune out if it today, these are ceramic balls that we clean for an aluminium smelter
D7D5D262-CB30-46A3-9A14-891529B7CE0D.jpeg
I would like to say it worked a treat as you can see the balls emerging from the end
991346B3-88D9-4675-AEDA-17451E18006E.jpeg
0D9EDE27-9E0E-45E4-B81C-E04B290191B2.jpeg
But didn’t take into account if a load of balls came rushing into the drum and because the motor was just wired straight to a plug with no speed control fitted yet (still in the development stage) the shear weight stopped the motor:eek: managed to turn it off but not before it had got the motor quite hot, anyway had to start the motor under load and managed to help the drum round by hand which eventually cleared the drum so left it running with it empty too let the fan on the motor do it’s job but alas it burned out:cry:
But on a positive note I have got a spare, so swapped the motor, put a flap on the intake to restrict the feed and it seemed to be ok(y)
So next job is to make a soft start speed control for the drum, fit a hydraulic pump to lift the bed and a water pump control into a water proof case, will have to see what turns up in the yard:whistle:

Okay, I'll bite. What do ceramic balls have to do with aluminuim smelting?
Graham
I'd guess they're used to crush the Bauxite ore pellets down to powder without contaminating it ??

I don’t think so as they only recycle and remelt aluminium, I was told they have them under the furnace and they heat up and retain a lot of heat so they then put them under the next furnace to pre heat it, or that’s what I thought he said:unsure:

yeh that'd make a lot of sense Mog .... ceramic retains heat well once warmed - as well as being resistant to it ... a sort of semi fluid thermal mass you can move with relative ease .... apart from the fact it'd be 'kin hot and easily form an insulating jacket with, around a smelting furnace ....Ali process being electric arc, anything to retain expensive heat'd be a major bonus .... doubt the balls are that cheap though?
