Material prices

I buy hundreds k worth of materials a year and always have to use online as a benchmark for pricing against merchants! At every opportunity they try and screw me on something, really winds me up! I wish they would just set a fair price point, sometimes b&q come in cheaper for a single bag of cement over a full pallet from a trade merchant! 🤦‍♂️

its the rebate where you get the value.

also largely depends on how thick the manager is, once you get a decent one hang on to them. we've moved merchants as the manager swopped companies.

Williams and co (plumbing and heating materials btw 😉)
That’s handy to know, I’m just about to start sorting plumbing bits for our next build, big external oil combi and all rads/pipework etc. If they are keen on prices I’ll use them, not far from us!
You can refer me as a friend if you want, I see they do vouchers?

the 3 i use are county ,prices ,and jewsons, and have the managers of the local branches direct phone number ,dont ask anyone else in branch .
Robber Prices actually beat Pontrilas on CLS the last time I bought any .. much to my amazement ... I too have one or two specific people I'll speak with on the phone ... rest have no bloody idea whatsoever

Needed something transported this week, a refrigerated body off the back of a sprinter, 3 meters by 2 meters box, mostly insulation so not heavy...my trailer guy pulled out last minute so had to find a solution quickly, asked for a quote for a HIAB. 26 miles from collection to delivery, £625+ vat. I dunno if that's typical or not these days but needless to say I found another way.

I'd say that's taking the piss - in spades - with knobs on, for a local 'quicky'

Dunno - it’d be the best part of half a day’s work for a wagon. I doubt you’d find it much below £500 anywhere.

Yeah. I get asked for alsorts of jobs with the lorry as they think you can just nip here...there...wherever ect. But you soon loose a morning, even with a simple task. They either pay the rate or not, I'm not expensive but I'm not doing it without it been worth while.

Problem is, and by the way I've not seen this job but I can imagine it would be difficult to lift with a hiab then not overly easy to chain down without causing damage to the box. They are fairly flimsy at the best of times . Difficult to predict the best price you can do. Could have said it's £100/hr and travel to and from at least ... However long... Then the time spent loading up and lashing per hour.

was told today (dont know if theres any truth) that all is not well in the jewson world!
In my experience they haven’t been competitive in their pricing for a long while. Maybe too many people purchasing elsewhere. I’m in the middle of a self build. Jewson depot 1 mile from my site but an independent builders merchant 20 miles away have so far beaten them on price for everything
