Material prices

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
Things are changing, 3 big suppliers have emailed me this week with price drops on building materials.
it'll snowball eventually as demand drops away, when folk can no longer afford to spend on anything but essentials
BIL wanted some really basic plumbing fittings Monday .. went to a couple of local merchants - no stock, order in for tomorrow - all admitted they did not want to be holding stocks, waiting for stuff to drop ...

Spoke with Johnstons decorator center other day, guy said upper management want them to hold minimal basic stock only, everything to order! Was a huge unit with capacity for easily 2 artic loads of pallets on racking!

I buy hundreds k worth of materials a year and always have to use online as a benchmark for pricing against merchants! At every opportunity they try and screw me on something, really winds me up! I wish they would just set a fair price point, sometimes b&q come in cheaper for a single bag of cement over a full pallet from a trade merchant! 🤦‍♂️

trouble is it's the same everywhere Dave .... I've had better prices quoted to me over the phone, calling as 'Joe Bloggs', than I actually get, booked on my account when I go in for stuff .... we then have serious words and they better Joe Bloggs' price :censored:.. 's bloody infuriating .. have had an account with a few of 'em in excess of 40+ years
admittedly I don't buy that much these days ...... but Joe Bloggs, off the street, gets better prices FFS .... WTF is that all about

I think some of it depends on not only the merchants but the person behind the counter.
Jewson and Travis won't let you quibble the price unless you are the account holder. On the other a bloke behind the counter at the local jewsons rings up the account tells you it looks stupid and knocks of as much as he can without manager approval with you even asking (I have a feeling he is probably not to happy in his job )

One of the merchants I use is genuine trade only and every account holder gets the same price. Also do same day delivery 364 days a year at no extra cost with text updates on arrival times. Their MD is on a few of the facebook groups and actually deals with any issues that arise. With their attitude they deserve to do well!
