New chains and sprockets fitted on site yesterday. Shite day for it after days of sun, site was a big which slowed us right down, start to finish 8 hours, about double what it normally takes

Gus, that 360 final drive can’t be cheap. What size are the bolts and are they generally broken flush or below the surface?

Have you tried building up the end of the bolt with TIG weld and then TIG weld a nut on to use to unscrew the bit of broken bolt?

I have not yet had this method fail.

This was tried by the black smiths,
I have tried this in the past with out issue, the last 2 times I’ve came across this I’ve had to drill out and use an easy out, how ever even this wouldn’t remove them, burn the bolt to a mm of its life and still wouldn’t come out, you know it’s tight when it won’t move with you behind 8ft bad!
Suspect that bolts have been over torqued causing the threads inside to stretch!
Of the top of my head it’s the first time I’ve beeb beat trying to get snapped bolts out.
9/10 they break 2-3 threads in with the odd one sticking slightly proud

Could the final drive not be re-drilled between the current holes?

Bloody predictive text on the phone!

Drilling new was suggested but apparently they didn’t want to go down the route of drilling new holes! Other option was to strip the final drive down and remove the section and replace, but they decided they wanted a new final drive

I had tried by drilling centre out and heating the bolt up and cooling down with water to shock it then trying it with the easy out, still wouldn’t go, tried to heat up the flange faces around the bolts and they were cherry red! 8ft tube onto my easy out and it was bending the easy out, that’s how tight they were!

You must have some impressive easy outs if they will take an 8ft tube!

Very surprised they went for a complete unit, must be a fair cost involved? Has it done many hours?

I'd be guessing on the 'Snap-on' splined type, rather than the tapered anti clock grippers, which tend to expend what you're trying to get out :(

Is this the same firm who scrapped the grab with the dodgy rotator? I bet their scrap man can’t wait for the phone to ring from them!!!

In fact - is it you Mogman?!!!
