Been using the M42 a lot lately .... After initially and still now completely pissed off with the traffic I have had plenty of time to study the concrete barrier works.😒
Seems a completely different approach to normal seems to be a smaller contractor with a lot less machinery some very nice liebhers.
They basically just digging up laying precast blocks about 16 foot long then bolting the new concrete barrier to that with some kind of automated drilling rig looks a very neat setup and fast.
Nice to see some innovation

Contrast that with these lights. 24 hour attendance too. This is Southern Water. On the path there is a 4” square water meter cover, waiting for a tarmac gang to come along and lay about a kilo of tarmac. Why not just some cold lay? Would be better than the rest of the path!!

Three miles down the same road Portsmouth water had a set of lights too. They have actually dug up the road- the lights are necessary. No 24hour light attendant there. Why the difference? It’s all bullshit and we end up paying for it.

What's the normal process?
From what I've observed in my simple capacity and many hours sat on "the 6" it's a long drawn out process of digging up the old central reservation with about 5 machines per square metre...
Then huge amount of reinstatement sometimes delayed wide drainage this runs on for several years..
Finally extruderkerb come in and use their machines to pour the new barrier....

It won't be the water board that decide on the attendance, it is a condition of the permit the council issue. I can only assume The people that issue the permits are to busy be inclusive multi cultural lgbtwxyz wishy washy twats to actually know what they are doing.how the hell they can employ anyone on that role who hasn't actually done the work I do not know

I follow. Aye. New way seems better (assuming the finished barrier is as strong etc of course). Worry not though. I'm sure it'll revert to the incumbent, slower, more wasteful, more expensive method soon. Keep paying taxes.

Came past it again last week....looks the new precast concrete barrier is been used a temp protection as well instead of the normal steel stuff .then they just move it over onto the pad with monster sideloader when ready

Haven’t they condemned a load of concrete used in central reservations? I watched them doing m1 one years ago when we were working in Leeds plenty of time sat in traffic watching them .

Watched them knocking it out, rob and Ollie on it

But was one more recently West Midlands way from a specific plant concrete found to be substandard

No idea but just noticed as per original posts that this job seems much quicker and less kit and different process to normal.

Compared to M6 smart motorway at Wigan which utter joke. 200million quid.
Barrier etc long since finished ..just seem to be farting about with signs etc..is there no accountability on these jobs?
Was supposed to be complete spring 23...
