Lean mix

Seems more economical overall in good weather to go to the plant for a bit of lean mix but going into winter and rainy days it gets harder to time the trip to the plant, Im wondering if with some creative thinking utilizing the engcon there is a way to mix up a bit of lean mix holeside, the spec on many jobs is just stabilized sand at 200kg per m3 ?

As in make a mixer utilising the Engcon rotator? That’s one for @Mogman

Clamshell bucket, weld some fins inside, maybe plate over the top a bit if it's too open and you can do that without affecting the range of motion. Grab the sand, pour the dust in at the top, tilt as far as possible and rotate?

Might be easier just to buy a secondhand mixer bucket and weld some S40 brackets on though.

Just mix it in a RoRo with the bucket like a normal person.

A old big belle mixer drum.. add a s40 bracket onto it and a straight edge so you can scoop up the sand….

I mix up concrete all the time with the digger, I just stab the cutting edge into a ton bag & turn it upside down & pour a few bags of dust on the top & dig from the outside & tip on top till it’s mixed then a few glugs of water from 25l drum.
It only takes 10 mins max
It’s easier if on hard ground but can be done on grass or soil just leave a little bit at the bottom

Dumper works well for me. Can mix up a dumpy bags worth in around 20 mins. Minimal handling and easy to scope out again for placement.

Knocking up semi dry on the floor is fine, starts to get tedious if you want it wet even if mixing in dumper. Still beats using mixer and shovel though

Knocking up semi dry in the belle gets tedious when it sticks to the side of the drum, definitely easier to mix wet concrete with belle mixer.

I don’t have any experience with the plastic drums but I don’t imagine they are going to be any better mixing semi dry mix.

old steel oil tank with the top/side cut out of it ... ideal mixing bin ... either a 300 gallon with the side out or a 600 gallon cut in half - two bins for the price of one tank then too .. weigh it in when you've knackered it

was forever getting ppl into the yard asking if I could dispose of their old tanks .. charge 'em a few quid, for the privilege, then cut em in half/whatever suited, for scrap bins.. just load the whole thing onto scrappy's truck with the FLT -- job done

I have thought of those in the past (I have the auger drive anyway) but to me seems like a very slow faffy way of doing it. Small batches like that requiring hand loading etc. Some times I think simple is best.

Pan mixer is much better for mixing dry lean mix.
