I have to get the welder out when school starts. Got a lot of grading to do and this is my next must have!

Time and money well spent making a grading beam. I think I have between 30 and 50% time saving and a better job.
If you are making your own there are a few things to think about.
I would have bolt on head stock so you can use it on other machines in future.
Have the headstock on a turret to keep the muck out of your hitch.
Consider whether you want a roller or a wide flat area at the back. I find the flat back best for my applications as I grade a lot of sand and it can be so soft the roller doesn’t roll all the time making the finish look messy where it has skidded sometimes and rolled others. Also the flat area is good for scooping up materials.
How wide do you want it? Make it so it fits in your trailer.

No spare carrying capacity on the trailer so it will be in the back of the Iveco tipper with all the other buckets! I think with the Engcon they said no more than 1200 wide.

thanks for your reply and yes to most of that. The grading beam was made up one Sunday afternoon as prototype out of an old gate and some and some scrap angle for a job filling some rutts on a playing field the most important thing at the time is that it would fit uder the digger on the trailer.
the headstock being welded is not a problem as i only have the one digger .
when i get around to replacing it you are right a wider shelf at the back will improve things also i will be making it from 50 mm x 75 mm Chanel instead of box and angle and i will be able to raise the headstock a bit. i was avoiding the roller as it will be too high and hit the track frame on the trailer
i am trying to work out a way of fitting it to the blade so that it can be used like a leavle bar on a tractor but that one is still on the drawing board.

The Spectra cr 600 detectot is good on the blade as well as on the grading bar easy to hear even past the radio and i did not think expensive saved a mans wages for the week that's it paid for

Komatsu (Ollie) is the one to ask on that. I think he was involved in the design of the Engcon one. I have an original steelwrist beam that the pins were straight on the top and the hitch on my tiltrotator got full of crap. My guess would be about 250mm.

Doesn’t look that you have the bars that far apart. I think my design had them about 400mm apart.

Ahhh.....will measure them on Monday, levelled thousands of tons with it and never had any issues

they're all of that on there Shaun ... S60 pins're 480mm ctr.s
and those channels're at least 200 x 90 PFC

Only used it quickly on the farm to regrade a farm track.....WOW!!
U have always found grading quite hard. Altough the track is an existing one I found it very simple to regrade. You can really see what you are doing. Will add a laser level mount for a job coming up.....but first impression on the track and also some subsoil than needed levelling was that this is going to be a big time saver and will certainly flatter my ability!
