Well as the ***** at Days left us waiting till four for the last two lorries, I decided we needed to spread it quicker to be ready for sand tomorrow. So welded a hitch onto the grading beam. f***ed it up a bit, I was in a right rush. Cheeks are a bit wonky but bosses square there was nowhere to really put a square against.

Took half an hour to get used to it, but a major improvement on a bucket I'd say. Hitch needs to be jigged a bit to allow more pull back to machine so it's a good job it's not fully welded apart from the bosses.

Like you say should weld the pins at an angle bit like a bucket top
What I would do is pull the dipper right in and close the bucket ram then see where the pins on the beam need to be

can you turn your Helac around in the QH, as a temporary measure Ruben ... it's not helping being the opposite angle to what you need to start with

I used mine again today to go over a drive I had done with the bucket. I hadn't realised how bad it was until I started pulling over the top.

Well I was s**t scared of using it to level out the menage sand, what with those sharp edges, my lack of experience with it and the membrane 125mm below but it went bloody well. It cost me maybe £180 in steel and kit form hitch plate to make and probabl;y three hours to put it together. I can honestly say it paid for itself in time savings on that one job.

I think it is one of those things that you don't appreciate how big a time saving (and in my case improvement in quality) can be made until you have one. Then you'll wonder why you never made one earlier.

Indeed. It was invaluable having it on a tilt hitch too.

I hear you regarding improvement in quality, and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I don't care if people think I'm a s**t operator so long as I'm a good businessman.

I wish my op would use the tilt hitch more. He's so bloody old school. But he's cheap. So business wins out.

They're f****ng horrendous money new (from exac-one at least). Was going to look at Hardford one but probably cheaper to add new cheek plates to mine to make it fit properly one day. I got mine fairly cheap on eBay second hand.

What pin sizes do you need?

Try RSL Engineering....I seem to think they do one as I was considering it before I went Engcon

I think rsl do a simple ram type tilt hitch if you want something cheaper than a helac one

Also just looked on rsl's website and i dont know if its of interest to anyone but they do a hydraulic tilting grading beam looks a very unique design using large tubes as the cross beams
