I will argue this a little. We have 3 full time office staff and since covid we still have each doing a days work at home one day a week. It keeps us flexible and if a staff member has child care issues or is Ill it often means they can put in a days work rather than being absent/Ill/ taking as unpaid. Also we pay door to door, so straight away someone working from home saves me upto an hours pay a day in saved travel time .
I don’t like it being more than 1 in 5 / 20% of time WFM but it does have its benefits in my experience.
It's great if the people are honest especially 1 day a week

sums up main contractors
FFS !!!!
thank God someone is actually holding these pr*cks to account

" BAM requested €25million to change the positioning of air conditioning grilles in operating theatres. The contractor told the board the changes would take six months to complete and ‘would impact the substantial completion date’. ‘It cost less than 1% of that. It cost less than €200,000 and it took a few weeks, ....... The hospital was originally scheduled to be completed in 2020 with a budget of €650million. The bill has spiralled to in the region of €2.2billion and has been delayed on 14 occasions. ....... open by the end of next year, but added that it depends on the building firm committing to the completion date of June 2025. ...... €750million of claims have been assessed so far, and that BAM has been found to be entitled to just €30million of this sum ....... "

My other half works from home 2 days a week, and works just as hard as in the office. Sometimes she’ll even “just log in quick” to make sure things are sorted when there’s time zone differences to other offices.

My wife has worked from home since 2009. The company she works for now, in 7 years has only been to the office twice. Once for an interview and then to pick up the laptop!!
She has an office in the house, goes in there and spends most of the day there. All the work is calls, emails and online meetings.
It saves a lot of wasted time in travel!!

You’re a small enough co to manage it though . It’s bigger businesses and public services that loose control of staff working from home .

The amount of times I hear
‘oh I’m working from home today so I’ll have to do that when I’m back in the office next week for you’ 🤯😤

Then there are some of the jobs that I simply don't understand how they can be done remote. My dad's next door neighbour in Herefordshire is a planning officer either Truro or Torquay can't remember which. But how can a planning officer be 100% remote.

And also regularly seem to phone companies up and Get told the person you are after is working from home and is unavailable. Surely if working from home surely the ability to communicate is pretty important.

I had a small query for a planning officer that I needed quick clarification on . I called the planning office and once I eventually got through I asked for the officer. I was told she was working from home so I asked for her mobile number . I was told she doesn’t have one and that if I need to contact her I should email her . I then said can I speak to another available planning officer . None were available . I then asked for a technician as my query was minor and they may be able to help. No technicians were available . I gave up.

This...said it for ages ...everyone forgets who suffers the most from wfh...the customer!!!
As above im sick of trying to get hold of actual people to resolve issues or get support etc.
About time we had a reset of priorities in UK

Our ‘local’ council employed two women who live and work over in Ireland!! What good is that for anyone!!?
We have constant planning apps in, currently got 6 in , I haven’t met a case officer on site in nearly 10 years now!!

If you can WFH, your role could and should be replaced with AI.
Just had my first experience with AI on Friday. We have a very difficult customer trying to sue me for £170 for work we did in January (long story). Her last email was 1400 words. I drafted a rely, my sister tidied it up into a less angry tirade into something more acceptable. She then ran it though AI and the resulting email was much better than either of could achieve. Frighteningly good!
