Kitchen and Wade Drill query

Next question - I’ve chucked some wires into the lathe and can get it to make noises if I push in the buttons inside the electrical panel, but the controls on the front don’t do anything. I’m no electrician and I’m certainly not getting heavily involved in this as I will definitely die…
What it the little silver jobby circled below? It seems to spark at random (which is rather disconcerting!)

got a meter MB? see what the tranny is putting out could just be an isolating tranny .. other two look to be

deffo I'd have thought if lo-volt, but can't see a Neutral post , so might just be transformed straight down from 440 .... a clearer pic would help a lot

see if the orange bit (circled yellow) will move inwards with a well insulated screwdriver MB .... looks to be the main motor contactor ... pushing it home (if it's a moving type) should fire up the main motor

No - I can’t see where to connect it so left it out of the mix. It could well be the issue though!

No - I can’t see where to connect it so left it out of the mix. It could well be the issue though!

as in the motor fires up ???

may well be no neutral and just three phases ... only need neutral to split 240 out off phase legs ... lot of continental stuff is just 3 legs and transformed down to whatever they want

"fierce" ...... stay well away from that MB ... has the capacity to do some serious damage - has shorted to case - new one required ....
disconnect from supply ...
leave a while ...
wear good thick rubber gloves and earth it with a jump lead to be certain it's fully discharged ..
then inspect for info/details/credentials ...
buy new one and fit

on edit
should find a new capacitor easy enough ..... once you have the details .. treat that with the utmost of respect that is some arc

I have a collection here that are duplicates of the ones I use. I wouldn’t let them go for £200/te but I also know they are not made of gold either.

If you might be interested I’ll dig them out and count up what I have spare.

I’ve got a load of tooling that came with this kit that I need to pull out and see what’s what, but yes, potentially please. I’ll get my head around what I have and see if any gaps can be filled - thank you!

Where’s your sense of adventure stand in a bucket of water (bare feet obviously) and poke the offending capacitor with your todger just to confirm it’s fault, don’t want you wasting good money if not needed

That’s a bit specialist, even for you (whatever floats your boat though I suppose!).
What do you put in your search engine to find those videos by the way (so I know what never to type, ever!!!)?

dropped cover plate off big 3ph db once..undid last screw and it slid and hit the buzz bar...hell that was a helluva flash...

aye 3 ph is to be respected - big time.
stripping my shop I was sure i had a dead board in front of me, having knocked all the breakers off at the main dis. board ...... wrong ... bloody leccy had run this one straight from the meter/main isolator .... helluvaflash ... went back to source and pulled the tails, with the main fuses pulled ... wire tied or not they were coming out ... left the lights and alarm connected .. everything else killed ..... not to be ****ed with

switched from one location? ... takes a lot of time running singles out, or have you run 2 / 3 core back from each. there's no short cuts to a decent job MB .. looks tidy ...... no overheads or higher levels??
