Company I worked for had some Santana on hire, absolute crap heap, at 1500 miles the gear stick broke and at around 3k the rear diff exploded.

Having read the wiki page the design brief actually looks good. How close they will be able to keep to it with things like abs, traction control, air bags and emission control stuff being required, I don't know.

funny you should say that ..... had to repair the one I had ........ and known for it ... as said .. bloody awful box, with bigger bearings to supposedly cope with more donkeys ...... have read somewhere the LT95 is good for in excess of 300BHP

Anyone hoping that this would support British jobs, its not looking so good now.
Will be in some European, cheaper labour country..... If they ever actually do it.
It's ambitious to just jump straight into selling £40k motors that nobody really wants, or more to the point the people who actually do want it, need it to be around 20k.

You wouldn't want one of the first ones off the line anyway. Despite possibly assembling tried and tested parts putting them all together ain't as simple as you think. Could fall at the first hurdle if they even get into production.

They now have options that didn’t exist a year ago. Probably cheaper to take on the existing facility than continue building from scratch!

I understand where you are coming from. I have been waiting with interest to see if he could pull off the promise. Made in the Uk would have had my wallet twitching if the price was right but I also fear it is going to be too expensive no matter where it is built! Still wish him well!

For me, if I was going to spend 40k on work truck it would be hard to look past the Tesla cyber truck. The looks are terrible (probably/hopefully will be different to meet crash safety standards) but if it can be under 3.5t gvw, it seats 6 and tows 3.5t. as much as it annoys me, electric is the future although would rather a decent sized V6 or v8

its massive, too big for our roads.

I think that's it's biggest issue, I'm sure it's also 5t gvw so beside it's massive dimensions, there is no market for it here as wouldn't it need to be on an o license

I saw some mpg figures for them, not as bad as that but still terrible! I get it they might be good off-road, but as good as Land Rover tech? I doubt it.. I somewhat think they might be fighting a loosing battle.

The build page finally loaded and adding a few options..
Heated seats, offraod pack, smooth pack, towbar (600 or additional 55 of you want a drop pin towball) and that's coming up at 52.5k plus vat 🤯 for what's basically a bastard child of a defender and g wagen

There is some nice little options but stupid money.

Not sure how they work out that a base model does less mpg than a high spec model with all terrain tyres, surely the base model weighs less than a fully specced high model and considering they all have the same engines and gearbox

When Ford and VW have to join forces to make it financially viable to develop a new pick up it gives you some idea of the costs involved, however wonderful the Grenadier could be i don't think it will ever sell in the volumes Ford/VW are working with, hence its going to be a bit pricey unfortunately
