Interesting seeing the state of a 12 year old chassis ..seen worse tbf considering it obviously wasn't looked after 😖

I'm currently building my ideal work vehicle 1962 landrover forward control double cab with defender axles and a jag 3.2 straight 6 with lpg ulez exempt tax exempt and insurance 125 a year its the way forward😁

How sure are you that it'll fit the criteria for historic vehicle? ...... hope it does as if it does mine definitely will 🙂

not a problem with a '62 chassis ... however the defender axles're gonna be contentious .... presumably original LT95 box and O/drive? ..... I have a list some where of what each component is worth - points-wise to qualify ... I'll try and find it
Historic is now on a rolling 40 yearly basis ... was originally pre '73 only, but that changed a while back, so anything currently pre July '83 now qualifies ... It must also have a current MOT when you apply for historic status and then be kept in a roadworthy condition ... can get hauled off to a ministry test centre at any time if stopped by plod and they'm not happy it's roadworthy :(

those jag motors love LPG .. flap valve or hot wire inlet? got an ECU for one of them here somewhere  same as the range rover, but don't use two of the injector triggers on the hotwire set up ... lovely choice of motor that .. always fancied trying one in a 90 ... had a motor sat ready, but Gaucher's beat me :(:censored:
Nope going to use a blos carb made up a new inlet manifold to suit it running a e type distributor to keep it simple

I'm just about in the points range for historic but the v5 only has a 5 digit chassis number on it no engine size or body type anyway and it's only really a body change the chassis is original

engine number will be on there though ..... what age is the Jag motor? ... as far as I recall axles count as a point each ..... g/box I think was two ... chassis four ... think you needed 8 points ...... will search out the paperwork I have

Worth a read,
And

But,

Acceptable changes

It does not count as a ‘substantial change’ if:

  • changes are made to preserve a vehicle because the original type parts are no longer reasonably available
  • they are changes of a type which can be demonstrated to have been made when vehicles of the type were in production or within 10 years of the end of production
  • axles and running gear have been changed to improve efficiency, safety or environmental performance
  • changes were made to vehicles that were previously used as commercial vehicles, and you can prove the changes were made when the vehicle was used commercially
But Then,

Historic vehicle tax exemption

You can apply to stop paying for vehicle tax from 1 April 2023 if your vehicle was built before 1 January 1983. You must tax your vehicle even if you do not have to pay.
If you do not know when your vehicle was built, but it was first registered before 8 January 1983, you can still apply to stop paying vehicle tax.
Your vehicle will not be exempt from vehicle tax if:
  • it’s used for hire or reward (for example, it’s used as a taxi for paying customers)
  • it’s used commercially for a trade or business

I may use one of my other vehicles for a work vehicle officially all the bits are landrover other than the engine anyway I'm not sure there is an engine number on the paperwork it's an ex military vehicle and they did not bother with many details when they came from service engine is from a 1991 jag h reg it's axle is in my 1965 Volvo Amazon😁

Axles have disk brakes rather than drums I would say thats a safety upgrade at least that's why i changed them
at least it would now seem you have an opportunity to justify swaps like that ..... never used to be the case  ... was purely age related

saw Another grenadier on the road today… going around a corner, half on my side of the road, was pretty certain that was the Hilux done for!! It literally looked like a 30 ton slab of black concrete whaling towards me!! 😳

I like the idea of the grenadier basically a landrover with a decent engine but I think I will stick with the lwb trooper from what I hear it's much more comfortable

And cheaper tho not to run I only get 13mpg but it sounds nice 😁 so it's worth it
3.5v6?
I had a couple of swb 3.0s, lovely to drive, loads of power, plenty of room, double back door was useful, amazing turning circle!
Swb made it a bit twitchy with a trailer that was anything less than perfectly balanced though, and only lwb could tow 3.5T.
I'd rather have a new one of them over a Grenadier or a pick up, that's for sure!

A friend of mine test drove one at the dealership in Gloucester and said the steering was terrible. Is it recirculating ball? , like old land rovers , to reduce kick back when off reading? But it doesn't want to self centre after going round a corner he told me, and having to constantly correct. Put him right off!

Lad I follow took one his customers out for a decent drive, his main comment was on the steering, said it was so light it was just dangerous!!
