I saw a post last week that suggested legit

but I’d probably say it won’t happen I don’t know. Why they don’t is beyond me it would sell well , the ranger raptors are getting in for their size too.

I don't know about also where but the ranger raptors seem a nightmare round here. Although it may just be the drivers. But they can't seem to pass a car on a country road.

Completely unrelated to any previous discussions about specification or having nice vehicles I genuinely do not understand why the current crop of pickups need to be so big.
The pickups of the early 2000's where such a good size. Easier to park fitted on country lanes better. Lighter and more agile off-road. Easier to reach into the bed especially over the sides. And I don't think they had had any less room in the cab. Obviously I don't know without measuring but it definitely feels like any extra space is more down to dashboard design. And the back seat space is definitely the same.
Or maybe it's time the released a second smaller line of pickups to run along side the big ones.

They are simply ridiculous given its all arch kits and no actual increase of cabin space. You can see why the government wanted to knock double cab pickups when they are looking like this

The gap is really shrinking though in comparison to what they use to be.
I think American trucks are great. Saw a video of the new top of the range f350. What an awesome truck for what I assume will mostly be a pleasure mobile. But at the end of the day we have to accept our roads and a lot of europes as well aren't built like American roads.

It's a huge problem round here people driving vehicles that are simply to big for there ability. If people want to own a pickup or range Rover they should at least have the courtesy to learn how to drive it.

Here’s a 1989 truck compared to a current gen . Granted the red truck is lowered and is only a single cab but the size of the bonnet etc is relevant

The 89 is great to drive nowadays as its actually small

I can excuse people who know they can't drive by a Kia piccanto or similar. I can accept that it's difficult to live without a car in a lot of this country and people need to learn. But why on earth people go and buy a car that they cannot drive is beyond me.
The latest generation of Merc/BMW/Audi 4x4s are a prime example

Most in a piccanto can't drive and that's the issue..there's a damn site more of them than pickups ...seems to have got worse since covid.
Litterally just freeze on a single track road ..with a gap I can fit a truck through...and do.

New vehicles have a much better crash rating, they crumple on purpose, softer for pedestrians etc all of that stuff adds bulk to the outside of the vehicle.
rather be in a new defender than an old one in a crash anyday!!

I always see this excuse and tbh I think it's just marketing cr** there are plenty of small cars on the market with good crash ratings. They make the cars bigger as they have ran out of actual technological advancements to sell new cars so they have to make them bigger and shinier and add more gadgets that no one really needs in order to keep selling new cars that no one really needs.

By all measures, motor-vehicle safety has vastly improved since the early 1900s. Driver attitudes and behaviorshave changed substantially, as has vehicle safety technology, which makes car travel safer.

The population motor-vehicle death rate reached its peak in 1937 with 30.8 deaths per 100,000 population. The current rate is 14.3 per 100,000, representing a 54% improvement.

In 1913, 33.38 people died for every 10,000 vehicles on the road. In 2021, the death rate was 1.66 per 10,000 vehicles, a 95% improvement.”

I appreciate most of what your probably on about is nonsense ‘upgrades’ that the salesman says you must have!!

my two pennyworth...from being fortunate enough to live in the sticks..
law of physics states you've more chance of surviving in a big well built motor than a small pile of crap ...that's enough for me.
Think if you check the Volvo XC90 stats they still claim no ones ever been killed in one .
Life's a rat race I'm afraid ...and I intend to survive as long as I can....there's far to many twats about and however good a driver you are there always some coked up polish driver watching YouTube with your number on it.

I'm not saying safety hasn't improved at all. Just that the bloat of cars is a lot more than just safety. There are plenty of small 5 star ncap cars on the market.

True! It’s main reason I gave up on the bikes, just takes one knob on phone not looking and your a statistic.
Went past a whole family on phones in car yesterday, mum driving holding phone in one hand while typing with other, dad next to her the same, two little uns in the back watching something on there’s too. Really sad, mental, selfish etc hard to understand how daft it’s become in just a few years really

Just checked the safest cars on auto car and actually no Volvos on the list nor land rovers. The two smaller Tesla's are but not the big one. No bmw's and the only merc is a saloon not a 4x4.
Also it's a never ending cycle of needing a big car to fend off another big car.
When are we going to stop, our roads can't fit the cars we have on it. No wonder the government feels the need to persecute the motorist as we are our own worst enemy.

Our whole perception of motor vehicles is going to have to change regardless of any green agenda as if we keep going it will completely screw the average working person over.
