Years ago I went to unplug a 110v site transformer ,pulled the240 plug and the top came off,it actually sent me across the room and flat on my back as the site foreman had taken the screw out of the bottom of the plug for reasons known only to himself and my fingers caressedthe inner workings of said plug!

Mate had a sparky in on a refurb job, meant to have disconnected all electrics and just added a couple of temporary plugs and some lights, another mate was taking a wall down till he got a belt off of a wire that had been left connected

when I was stripping my old w/shop out (wasn't leaving it all for the demo gangs - wasn't in the sale contract :giggle:) I'd thrown the breaker on one of the main feeds, at the incomer, to a dis. board I was about to disconnect/dismantle ... had been installed by a leccy I used to use, who originally wired a lot of the shop (and who's work I'd gotten fed up of having to replace myself) and had given up using
mate who was with me said " are you sure you've switched the right dis. board ?" " yeh yeh .. 's marked up on the breaker - dis. #3 and I've already disconnected all the outgoing spurs " and nonchalantly dropped my favourite leccy driver across two bus bars -- and promptly blew the end clean off the driver in a shower of sparks and an impressive flash (440V):mad::cry: ... Pri*k'd only marked all the breakers up the wrong way round :mad: wouldn't have gotten up from that one -- threw the main incomer's 100A breakers after that - regardless  ... always treated 3ph with the utmost respect and usually slung a meter across anything i was gonna work on first

A special category has been created in the annual PT awards - it's open for nominations.

wasn't it Guy Martin who had a go at that a few years ago, but with full blown, highly tuned race engines ? Can recall watching it on the box

edit --- should've read the rest of the thread 👆👆👆

this seemed the most appropriate thread for this one

" Climate Change Committee’s latest report sets out progress needed to stay on track with net zero targets
Half of homes should be installed with a heat pump by 2040 but hydrogen should not be used to heat buildings, the government has been told.

The Climate Change Committee’s (CCC) Seventh Carbon Budget report said the annual rate of heat pump installations needs to rise from 60,000 recorded in 2023 to almost 450,000 by 2030 and hit 1.5 million by 2035. " :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Always hear mixed reviews for ashp, generally more as a buyers remorse.
Anyone got any on here and happy with it?

Had it for 6 years numerous posts on here about iirc.

My comments in one sentence, if you haven't got a new insulated to the hilt box with ufloor make sure you have a big woodburner as well.
Mines in and fired up . House not yet finished yet though . In all fairness I’d of likely gone for an oil boiler given the choice but some renewables are needed as new build.
Mines a ground source , 210sq m of house 10kw heat pump with 600m of pipe in the ground . It’s got UFH and it’s got a fairly good level of insulation .
It’s not working fully yet as the stats aren’t wired up but it’s running constant at 17 degrees .
I will post exactly how it goes though . If you’ve got the space and a digger it makes it a better option than an air source but I don’t know how it will perform against an oil boiler.

Comparable running costs in most scenarios unless you spunk on batteries but to be honest you will likely never pay off the outlay

from my little knowledge @Lancs Lad is spot on .insulation is a must ,and the heating system designed for ashp or gshp, coneversions are difficult and expensive.have taken a few poorly installed gshp and replaced with gas.the instant heat of a gas /oil boiler isnt as good. with ashp and if you have a housefull of people who like a bath ,then hot water recovery is a tad slower

on a similar note ,i have a client who has 2 elecy cars ,ashp.has just signed a deal with "tomato energy"who have installd 8kw of panels and a 10kw battery
he is now paying 170 a month for electric, guaranteed for 5 years ,and gets to keep battery and panels when contract is finnished
he worked out its about 15 quid a month cheaper than what he is paying now and gets panels and battery thrown in

Exactly , having the space and a digger was why I went down gshp route and we’ve installed a few in houses we’ve built in the past and most had good results compared to air source . I’m not going for any pvs though .
