One word.. Sikaflex.
Oh and a rattle can. "Modern technology" we called it. Everythings bonded now innit ...
whilst it's true that a lot of modern vehicles do have bonded joints/panels/etc. .... they do at least start out having something to bond to :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Seam sealer 🤣
“Grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain’t”
Just got a D2 through an MOT……before the replacement rear is going on!!
Picked it up at Xmas but wanted to get a ticket on it to see what else is required. It was under sealed early in its life and only needed 2 small patches. But two things you can’t weld……fresh air and rust!!

Brings a shudder to my spine that
Spent two years doing citroens.

A rough BX..."just needs to scrape through MOT" stuff of a horror film....talk about welding to thin air ...pissing LHM from every orifice.

I don’t mind it. £60 and burning no diesel, in the workshop with the radio on and coffee nearby? Why not.

There's a decent welding outfit near here. Father and son. More or less all they do is the most utterly horrendous welding jobs that no one else wants to touch. Been at it for decades and still seem to love it🤣

I bet if you had a lift it wouldn't be too bad. It's laying at an awkward angle under your car on the drive that I don't like. Also someone needs to invent an automatic, fire sensing water sprayer that you stick on the other side of what your working on.

Talking of welding…my favourite ever Transit has just been given the bad news. Garage reckon £2500 to service and MOT this time (with advisories). Not sure I can bring myself to pay that on a 210k van at 13 years old. Sad times.

Doesn't look all that bad to me I have done worse if it's a working van and doesn't need to look all original the welding is underneath anyway and if you route the new brake pipes under rather than over the fuel tank it's a lot easier

Bulbs and brake pipes aren’t bad. Corrosion wise, how bad is it 🤷🏻‍♂️ There’s lots of backside covering now on tests so anything not perfect they’ll note. I know the lads who do my tests, and they know I like things right so will just tell me if something needs future work.

It’s 13 year old and 210k so probably due an engine or gear box at some point. Could turn into a money pit, and we have a spare one at work ATM.

Spring hangers and inner and outer cills this time. Cross members and steps next time I expect!

Doesn't actually say cills but box section is your friend in many cases
80 x 40 RHS (or was it 90 x 50 ) was perfect on two door classic RRs for cill replacement (y) with a bit of judicious bending here and there :giggle:

That's why I've given up on vans. Rusted to death in ten years.
To be fair this is 13 years of abuse and it’s first welding . MK6 transits uses to fail at 6 years old . They are getting better!
One reason for letting her go is that’s she’s only a 280 with about 1500 max trailer weight and given that I tow a LOT with her at weights that may or may not exceed that by upto 2000kg, it’s maybe time to swap out to a van with a better towing capacity. I put 16” rims on her many years ago which makes it look less wrong , and puts the towball at a better height. Probably been pushing my luck long enough. Had the original clutch replaced at 180k so it’s been a good un. My first MK6 FWD/LWB/350 went through 5 clutches/DMF and 4 gearboxes in its 180k so this one has been a proper treat. Sad times but upwards and onwards.
