Hitch ponder.

Looking at the Volvo hitch size it's almost identical in dipper width/pin dia as my 2.8t hitch. The pin spacings are however 15mm closer on the Volvo. Would have been nice if I could have just started picking up the Taks buckets straight off!

the Ovlov hitch has no lateral latitude for pin centres?

It's currently Bare stick. Basically it's a 2 year old machine that's absolutely immaculate however original owner trades them in every 2 years and is taking the old hitch and buckets to go on new machine- which in a way suits me well because then dealer can supply to me with hitch of my choice.

so you're going for an S type hitch then ??

Well that's why I'm asking. Financially it's probably better to get it fitted with a hitch that will fit current Tak buckets etc. but from what I hear the S30 system is better for geometry/weight reasons so thinking that's the route I should go down for the Volvo and either swap the Tak too in time so they're on the same (better) hitch system.

"horses for courses" ... how much hard digging are you doing daily and what are the dimensional differences between what you're using and the S type going to give you ... don't get me wrong the S type is a great hitch, but are you REALLY going to gain much/anything from going to the additional expenses involved in the swap ... from what I see of your work, your machines are more handlers, for what you do and is the extra inch or so going to make a vast difference to how your machines perform their tasks for you ... just playing devil's advocate ... on your size weapons is there a massive difference/advantage to be had ...
scale up to 13t and above and there is a big difference in built height .. but at your size, does it warrant the cost, for what you do?

Good point for sure. Purely on a cost basis it might not add up but if I'm spending a fair whack on a little digger it be nice to get the best out of it as well as future thinking when eventually change the 3 tonner too that it can go straight on to the S30 platform. The expensive bit will be now but might even out in the long run.🤷

Just do it. The difference in geometry is unreal. Full buckets from a stockpile at reach, drop it into a dumper right up close to you.

And that’s before we get to the benefits of much more breakout force and far less wear.

Now is the ideal time to do it.

Because the British plant market is by and large thick as s**t and set in their ways.

I’ve yet to meet a salesman who has ever done a full shift to a reasonable standard on any machine they sell.
Good point.
