HITACHI ZAXIS 19U-5 --- JCB 18Z-1

Anyone had any seat time on either of these minis ? I havent used either the new series JCB or a small Hitchi since an EX30 in about 2002

Seen a Hitachi Zaxis 19u-5 c/w Hitch and 3 buckets @ 14,250 - m/y 2018 new unused ............ seems a decent price ?
or a JCB 18Z-1 demo hours 2017 @ 15k

Ahh the EX30 - now that was a great machine!
The Hitachi 19u is a solid, reliable bit of kit, drives ok, nothing to shout about. Only thing I didnt really like was the quite high step up into the cabin. Bit annoying when getting on and off all day as you tend to do on these mini's.
Havent driven an 18z but the 19c I drove was a big improvement on the older 8018. JCB certainly have thought through all the details on these new machines and there are some nice touches. Probably wont be worth as much in 5 years as the Hitachi but going by JCB's of old, it will probably be more powerful and faster. Worth a test drive?
A machine I certainly wouldnt rule out in this class is the Kubota U17. Decent sized arm, drives well, cab is ok - its certainly the one I'd be putting the other two up against and providing the money isnt too different, Id pick it over the Hitachi.
Let us know how you get on - theres some really good deals to be had on new kit at the moment, very tempting finance deals out there too.

Used the 1.9 Hitachi for a couple days was impressed with the speed and power for such a small mini and it would slew round in a tighter spot than a 1.5 JCB

Not used any of them, but I sat in one of the new JCBs recently, I was pleasantly surprised at the room and comfort in the cab, and I didn’t feel like I was forcing myself through the doorway, like you can on some minis.

Cheers for all the replies - I know where there is a low houred 2015 hyundai 17Z_9A - would be a bit of a leap into the unknown for me a Hyundai but looks good spec for the money.

I love my 8014 jcb and don't really rate the zx19 so from a drivers point of veiw it'd be an easy one for me, but I haven't tried the latest jcb so I'd want a demo first. Will however say I've never been disappointed by the smaller hyundai machines and if it were the right money I'd buy it without hesitation.
Let's face facts, you cant charge any more because it's got (insert any manufacturers name) written on the side so price has to come into it. I don't really hold much faith in x will hold its money better than y, if you buy whatever for 1k less and keep it for ten years there'll never be 1k difference in price between any make of the same age/hours.
Of course reliability comes into it but again there's not really any bad machines about as such and as an owner driver I very rarely have breakdowns cause stuffs looked after.
I love my 2 jcbs purely because they suit the way I drive, so would be a little biast to them, but new 1.5 tonners are around £15k give or take so if a Hyundai for instance was £750 cheaper like for like that's 5% cheaper. is the fact that I like jcb worth £750 more? Is it shite, I'm running a business not the feckin wmca.
ive wrote this and just re read your original post, the hitachi is newer, less hours and cheaper. See my drivel above, there's no contest after the first 100 hrs you'll be used of either machine. I'm used of jcb so they feel 'normal' just as any brand does to a regular driver.

Cant demo bugger all down here ... maybe a Eurocomach from local dealer but thats it.

What usually do is find a hire firm who has what I'm interested in and hire one for a few days, you can really put it through its paces then and if you don't like it you ain't lost much.

I run an older Kubota and paid quite good money for it 2 years ago. It is without doubt a better digger than the 3 ton JCB I used to borrow from a friend that is of similar age. I thought I was one of a few as I am used to running my kit until it is finished with! But what I have learnt is that quality can be sold far easier than something that is not quite as desirable!

Was it your little Hyundai that had the dipper snap? I’d be wary of buying one of those second hand/out of warranty personally, having seen that.

That's a really good idea actually. And you can have a chat to the fitter, see what if any problems they get with a particular brand.
