Have you deffo found and checked relays?
like that for an ideaResettable fuses?
I bought one of each value and they live in my test kit. I drop one in when I'm tracking a problem, but no, I don't load the fuse box with them.
do you know what circuits they run ..... they could well be meant to be carrying current/voltage .... don't despair ... as has been said you have got to be getting closeDisconnected what I think was the stop solenoid and still nothing although I now have 3 fuses lighting up with the light tester now. I give up![]()
i have tried taking the relays out but the fuse still popsWhat about the relay end of the same cable? It’s not unknown for the Insulation on that cable to crack due to heat
i will look in the morning thanksAre there any 12v power supply points on the machine for plugging in a beacon or the likes?
i went through all of the relays today removing them and the fuse still blewHave you deffo found and checked relays?
i wasnt actually doing anything unusual, i was just doing a bit of digging then i moved onto a slope to start moving some type 1, am wondering if the immobiliser has a problem , not sure if it has a mercury tilt type switch ? i also thought of the ignition barrelYou'll find it the problem and it'll be simple enough.
This article might help you come up with strategy for finding where the problem is..

Tips for Finding a Short Circuit in Your Car's Electrical System
There are several ways a short circuit can occur and finding one in your car's electrical system isn't always easy.www.liveabout.com
Reading through the thread it sounds like it has to be a short to ground. There is a damaged positive wire touching earth somewhere. How could any damage have occurred? What was happening when the problem started?
Could there be a problem with the ignition switch/barrel? I'm thinking it has to be something that's physically happened to cause the short.
Just throwing some ideas out there!
wow that's a lot of riding lol . i have looked as much as i can see for a wire shorting as that is still my first thought but its hard to see all the loom especially under the instrument panel where all the fuses and relays etc are. think i need to look into the immobiliser as well. am wondering if the fact i was on a slope had anything to do with it. (although i have done this before) Next time your down this way pop in for a beer or two i am right near to the border tolls where u cross into Spain.like that for an idea

As also said it does sound suspiciously like a cable rubbed through and shorting to earth - some where .. and they can be a complete bar steward to find.
1983 and i am heading for Cavalaire on the med coast, Sud de France on me Kawi 1000 .. GF on the back and well loaded .. for a 3 week hol.
off the boat, 3 miles out of le Havre and it dies ... main 30A fuse later and we're on our way .... no idea WTF had caused it and couldn't emulate it
100 miles into France and it dies - again ..... and it continued to plague me all bloody day ... but by now I had a bit of a pattern forming in my mind .... it'd die on a left hander, well banked over.
by 4 pm I'd had a titsfull ... bike on centre stand and pulled it apart ... had a tank bag on - wrestled that off, tank off, seat off, everything in a heap on the side of the road and i'm going over the loom with a fine tooth ... main loom runs the spine of the frame under the tank and this is the focus of my attention .. self coagulating tape wrapped loom, in a 1 mm thick outer protective sleeve .. moved it aside and can see a tiny mark on the frame, where it looked to be arcing out ...
protruding through the loom, tape and its sheathing is a single strand of copper, from a multi stranded cable .. HTF it'd worked its way through all the insulation was beyond me, but it had
folded the tiny spur over and gave it a serious taping, all back together and not a moment's trouble for the rest of the trip, there, back or ever since.
I'd had it 2 faultless years and still have the Kawi, she's 42 years old now and has never let me down since.... got about 38K on the clock and at least 30K of those has been done round Europe ... set my personal best on it in '91 .. 986 miles in a day - a long one ..... that strand of wire is the only time it has ever missed a beat

thought you said it didn't have an immobiliser????wow that's a lot of riding lol . i have looked as much as i can see for a wire shorting as that is still my first thought but its hard to see all the loom especially under the instrument panel where all the fuses and relays etc are. think i need to look into the immobiliser as well. am wondering if the fact i was on a slope had anything to do with it. i will look in the morning thanks
40 amp is a main fuse, you'd expect beacons lights etc to be then fused again so would blow the lower rated fuse first. There may be relays the load side of which are taken off the 40 amp fuse and its either the wiring to these relays rubbed through or a relay faultyWill have a beacon socket at the top of the rear lefthand pillar but is wired to the beacon switch on the dashboard not permanent live.
i have a black box under the instrument panel and i dont know if thats an immobiliser or an ECU i dont have the keypad but i also dont know if there is one built into the key like in a car. the wiring diagram shows an immobiliser. i am very confused now.thought you said it didn't have an immobiliser????
or am I in a different thread ??
is it aftermarket? if so what breed and how does it function ?
I had issues with the one on my (new to me) Lil' Jakie ... water'd gotten into that and it'd just failed, but could just as easily've been killing fuses
i defo have the switch and i know ires run up the cab frame. i will check in the morningWill have a beacon socket at the top of the rear lefthand pillar but is wired to the beacon switch on the dashboard not permanent live.

any pix of said black box?i have a black box under the instrument panel and i dont know if thats an immobiliser or an ECU i dont have the keypad but i also dont know if there is one built into the key like in a car. the wiring diagram shows an immobiliser. i am very confused now.
Will try and find tommoro as it's fixed behind s cover bolted to the sideany pix of said black box?
A9. Cool pics. I haven't been to those places look nice though. We have plenty of gorges here. Have u been to carcassonne?.. nice spot ..... A9, D900 or D914 ??
and yeh .. have done some miles in the sun on my old Kawi... that fault took some spotting and was an 'end of tether' exercise
just shows how little is needed to give an issue and how hard it can be to find
I think I said earlier here, somewhere, not been over to Froggy since 2009 ..... was on a GL1500 'Wing that time, running with my stepson on his f650 Beemer .... I flew the rest of the family into Montpelier and rented them a car for a couple of weeks .. sod being in a tin box in 32C, when you could be frying on two wheels
