Heavier machine or heavier counterweight

Seems rather ironic, you have the extra towing capacity that as @Storrsy says we would love to have, but it seems a more limited choice of machines?
the TB230 would certainly be my choice, I’ve had three 8t Takeuchi’s and love them and made the mistake of fitting a Tiltrotator to a 3t zero tailswing machine.
The only other option would be the Yanmar you mentioned and add multiple extra counterweights but seems a bit pointless if you can get a suitable deal from your Takeuchi dealer. 👍
Yep as far as conventional swing goes I pretty much have close to 0 options in the 3 ton class which is kinda amazing, the KX033-4 is to old and doesnt come with the right piping and other that the TB230 is my only other option i can find.

You wont believe it but Takeuchi in Aus doesn't sell the TB230 hahaha they only do the TB235-2 which is 3,290kg completely naked and my max tow is 3,380kg so it would be right on the limit and I would need to disconnect the direct mount SSO Engcon and put it in the back of my truck to be able to tow it.
They just can't make it easy for me over here :( they do have the TB225 as another smaller option that could work with a conventional swing and a ec02 so that is my other option.

Forget the 225. It's closer to a 2t machine than a 2.7t. Expanding tracks are great if you need to get through narrow gaps, but way less ground clearance.

I've demoed one with a tilty and it was pretty naff.

Looking like you'll need to see what Kobelco will offer you and just get some counterweights made up. I used to run extra counterwights on a zero tail machine, and it was actually a great setup. Handled like a conventional tailswing until you needed zero, and then you took them off and just dealt with the nodding for the job!

Yeah kobelco has the SK28 but depending on the price I am leaning towards the TB235 as the best option all round I think.

I drove the new kobelco sk28 a few weeks ago. You'll need plenty of rear weights. It was bad enough with just a standard bucket and hitch on.

Smooth and quick to operate but not the most spacious place to spend a day in.

Stick the tilty under a quickhitch and go for the TB235. It’d potentially be a better option again than the TB230 if you can get it to a weight you can move legally!
It’s a size of machine that doesn’t make a lot of sense in the UK but possibly sits in a similar niche to our 2.7 tonners (ie it’s as heavy as you can legally tow with a regular vehicle).

Was going to say this!

Put the tilty under a hitch and stick in on the wagon for transport. Ideal soloution. You’ll be surprised how often you drop the tilty off for a bit of ripper work or bulking out.

I’d not want a direct mount tilty even on the 1.9t machine.

Agreed the TB225 is pointless for the OP because of his ability to tow more. I've had one on hire and would say they are just what they say. Somewhere between 2 and 2.8t, they sell well because they're the biggest thing you can put on a trailer with all the attachments you might need and still be under the weight limit. They appeal to me quite a lot in this regard for jobs where I want extra capacity(they run 3 ton buckets well enough) and several attachments for a days work but the 216 would be too small and the 2.8t would be hugely overweight with all the bits

make a parking plate for the tilty .. makes life so easy for taking it off/keeping it safe/upright, when not in use/being transported .... mine's never fallen over and is always a POP to pick up again ;):giggle:

Tbh honest if its always going in the same wagon the cut a hole in the floor. Put the mounting pins in the hole and a plate that slots over the top.
not a lot of use if you want to park it on the floor anytime though  and always has to go in the same place then, on the truck .... fine if there's nothing in the way

Yeah I have a tipper truck so setting something into the bed wont work but I like that setup you have so I'll have to look into something like that for sure.

Yeah I want to get a manual hitch to go above the tilty to make it easier to take on and off but I would have to work out a S-type hitch that fits the arm of the machine I end up because I don't think Engcon do that unless they are doing a sandwich setup.

At least the tb 235 has air con, I keep looking at them but for my work they are just that little bit to wide to fit into a back garden though a 6 foot fence panel removed but apart from that they are good size machine

The bloke that has this is going to be selling it after only 200 hours use because the engcon & Kubota don’t work well together.
I think it’s the hydraulic pump arrangement that doesn’t lets it flow share nicely.
I’ve driven it a few times & can’t get on with it.
He had priority valve fitted to get more flow on the auxiliary but that hasn’t helped.
If your slewing & rotate it picks up speed right when you don’t won’t to.
It’s a kx 030-4
Engcon have tried adjusting it to make it smoother but now just say it’s the Kubota at fault & Kubota say there side is fine so sell it & buy a Takeuchi

That's a very light trailer 😂
