What are these disco 4s like ? Are they fairly reliable ? Can they do big miles without falling apart ? Water leaks ? Rust ?
It's a land rover 🤪. It will break down but I find nowadays people will slate them and say this that and other goes wrong so I don't bother looking into it too much. There's plenty of them around so got to be a few good ones.

I think the disco 4 rusts as much as the disco 3 does and l322 range rovers.

This one doesn't have a sunroof so shouldn't have any water leaks in that dept.

I've had a 2 l322 range rovers, both ran perfectly over the years I had them. One had an alternator go and the other had an injector seal go. Both of which you could expect of any vehicle. Oh and both had new batteries.
I got given a very well worn, 210k disco3 last year. Drove well but did have a few faults in the electrical dept and was very rusty on the chassis. I sold it to a fellow who had time to do it up.

This one is the 3.0v6 derv (again there's crank snapping stories) but is a base spec, one owner job and seen by landrover for everything.

Had it out with digger on today and so far I'm happy with it.
It's replacing my isuzu dmax because Mrs HM's hilux was getting long in the tooth and very rotten so I sold it and she wanted the isuzu.

Cracking tow tug them. Some with massive mileage round here as caravan wide load escorts round here absolutely loaded to gunwales with crap.
Ruddy good off-road with a set of decent tyres .
I think trouble is folk treat em like shitbkeep em for ages and then you hear the horror stories where as all the euro and far east normal car s**t boxes just quietly get scrapped and disappear iykwim.

Oh the joys of Landrovers. Reckon they must be the most discussed car online?

They are all 3.0 v6 in UK.

Early ones are 6sp auto and later are 8sp auto.

Both are good but my preference is the 6 speed as its still mechanical linkage. If the 8spd buggers up its 500 for the gear nob. The 8spd box is a good box tho and it's also same as one fitted to my iveco (although I hate me iveco right now)

Later ones have a pig piss system for the polar bears (adblue) so there's obviously that to go wrong but that age are euro 6 so ulez compliant and from about mid way through the model life they replaced the auto gear lever with a pop up rotary selector which can go wrong and not pop up.
So personally unless you want euro 6 I'd go for the newest gearstick model possible.
But I'm sure other people could come up with just as good a reasons to buy other aged ones.
Condition and history always beat age though for me.

That’s good advice , defo don’t want as blue and euro6 is not required so what would the year be the last year to get the proper gear lever ? I wonder does that tie in with hiluxmans post re the 6 and 8 speed gearbox .
Maybe the 8 has the pop up lever ?

I believe the 6 to 8 speed box is around 09/10.

No idea on adblue, I didn't think they had adblue in the disco4 as it went to disco5 in 2016 and that's when euro6 came in I think.

Posh seat covers fitted before I ruin the seats. Properly fitted covers are alot better than universal ones and not much extra than decent universal ones either.

I didn't order them with the writing on but I don't mind it.

What does a decent disco 4 go for then? Great tow barges I believe
8k for one I've bought. 1 owner, everything done at land rover. 100k.
Not beat up very straight all round. Mines basic spec but I'm plenty happy with it for my needs from it.
I think I've done well for what I've paid I did look at others for lot more money. Usually higher spec and higher miles on average

I did contemplate a 65 reg commercial version but would have to pay that caz nonsense so that put the end to that idea.

I’ve got a 2015 SE Tech - nice spec just below HSE so not keyless entry (easily stolen via relay theft!). It has start stop but literally never worked (fine with me!) I think it was only the very last 2016 models that had adblue. 8 speed has the rotary control.

I love mine as an allrounder, can go out with Mrs and dogs for the day, food etc yet doesn’t look out of place with a trailer on the back. Tows very nicely, you have to keep an eye on speed if not using cruise control as it’ll easily do 80+ with a trailer on and give no drama. Mine doesn’t get used as much as it should, but don’t have any plans to sell it. Insurance wasn’t bad, around £300 last year, but the renewal was over £850 this year due to the theft problems with the new models 🤬 That will probably have knocked second hand prices at the moment.

I reckon That insurance thing is a scam from insurers jumping on media hype and whacking it up. I'd love to see actual hard figures of what's stolen compared to other stuff...

I personally know of 4 of my friends plus 1 outside my house, and local Facebook group for poshest bit of Sheffield is a regular thing for rr/lr thefts so I think it’s more than just scaremongering

Go back to good old keys who decided we can’t put a key in an ignition anymore made them so easy to steal
