Whats grouting, not bathroom tiles I presume
There's loads of mine works and bell pits in the area. So they drill down, every 3m in this instance over the site and pump in grout. I'm told its Ash and probably other mixed in other things (not had much to do with it other than seen it done before). Basically it's to stabilise the ground and if they drop onto a bell pit or shaft then fills the voids in.

Sounds interesting, what's the grout brought in on, concrete lorry?

8 wheel tippers and mixed onsite. Apparently what they use is classed as waste so there's paperwork involved to bring it to site. They need water source so apparently they will connect to a hydrant halfway up the lane too.

I've been on a few jobs previously where they have grouted but never actually had much to do with it.

Wondered that but I'm guessing a 1000footer would hopefully be on coal board records 😳😄
Not always!!
I was QS for a developer that was building 15 detached houses in Bristol. Friday afternoon on the first drop, machine was nearly lost down a major shaft. The professor from Bristol was delighted to have finally found the “lost” shaft. The developer not so!!
Managed to dig out 3m deep across the site to remove all the bell pits. Raft foundations with 2 houses sat on a massive concrete pad over the top of the shaft. Managed to build out the site and make a profit. Boss was well happy as they had planned to write off the site and lock it up.
Got me many brownie points and the bosses Porsche 928 for several nights out. It was worth more than my house!!
