would a decent piece of pipe on a large enough piece of plate be adequate as a stand .. any issue with it sitting on its point ?

You know, something is diving around at the back of my mind about it sitting on the point but being a stroke victim can't fuckin remember...lol. so yes, use a big plate but take point out and weld pipe with a flange around it. Then the bush sits on the flange without the pipe contracting bottom of piston.

was thinking more of the point sitting in the tube as opposed to using the tube as a dummy spike in the breaker ... if the pipe was the right length going into it the breaker'd sit on the base plate ??

Yep Druid, f**k the point off. Use tube as dummy without contacting piston and bush rests on base plate.

Dry storage would help as well you would think if a breaker was to be left for a long period, ours get kept in the shed rather than outside.

sadly, still likely to condensate though, as temp.s fluctuate I'd have thought ..... cold days and then a warmer night and my machines in work used to drip with condensation ... big lumps of COLD metal

Its always good maintenance to release the nitrogen from the backhead and push the piston up inside the cylinder if its going to lay horizontal for a long period of time to prevent rusting on the lower section of piston.

Last weeks project was a customers new KX27-4 in for us to fit 2x 6 way 12v diverters to create a rotation and telescopic dipper facility.
He does mainly underpinning in and around london.
Also took the rotating clamshell and a new breaker, bless him.
