Grease gun recommendations

Makita battery grease gun is by far the best battery gun on the UK market if he wants to go down that route. Milwaukee is slower but if he already has batteries then they are also reliable.

If they did the Makita with the Fuchs cartridges it would be perfect!

I don't have too much of an issue keeping the Makita bled- is it just for lack of mess that you want Fuchs?

No issues with my Makita either . Pumps the tubes right out , no bleeding required . We have 2 and both good

Lube shuttle with Fuchs adaptor, g coupler. I love it. Wouldn't go back to conventional cartridges now regardless of cost

Yes, only because of mess.
TBH the Fuchs guns can sometimes be awkward to bleed if the cartridges are stored upside down - you need to push the plunger up to get the grease up the neck - the lack of mess can’t be beaten though, swapping standard grease cartridges always gets on my tits!

When I worked In new Zealand they use a different size cartridge . the alemite guns would fire the empty cartridge out the end. Even grinding the lip of the UK spec ones I have never manage to eject the cartridges quite the same

Makita - good

I seem to have issues with the ring pulls occasionally snapping off (on cold days mostly) which then creates a messy job, and the removed cartridges always have a thin smear of grease around the outside which ends up making a mess.
The Fuchs system is so much cleaner and better as far as I’m concerned.

My alemite one just pull lever out,unscrew handle, then release handle and cartridge is ejected into bin.
I usually open the ring pull with a pair of pliers. Makes may Less mess. And no air lock issues.
I think the biggest problem is rubbish grease guns.
I also wear a pair of disposable gloves to grease up as regardless of grease gun you end up getting grease on your hands cleaning the muck out of the grease nipples

got it in one ... never have to touch the spent cartridge ... Smith and Allen also have a full perimeter lip that sits on the end of the gun's body

I had to file the lip out the gun as cheap cartridges got stuck but since then no problems

as said " Smith and Allen also have a full perimeter lip that sits on the end of the gun's body " ... only the body of the cartridge fits into the gun's tube .. lip sits on the end and the cap screws down onto it

Tim Rayner (Traxcavator) recommended them to me .. he swore by Alemite ... as said mine are chrome CAT branded Alemite guns ... found someone doing them mega cheap on ebay .. I had two and IIRC Rory had two also ... got a cheapo ying tong G coupler on the one, which has proven to be better than the genuine article - has 4 gripper claws instead of the three in the 'proper' G,s .. thought I'd give one a try at a third of the price - what's to lose

and talking of Rory, he's been very quiet the last few days .. better ring him tomorrow, see if he's still upright - I know he's having big issues with his hand he broke a few months ago and did nothing about, despite being told to get it seen to
