The way people are acting on Facebook you would think that everyone with a car in the UK is going to rush out and buy the biggest ifor made.
In reality the people that need to tow are already towing. So if there are any effects it will be a few years down the line.
I do think they should have kept it as there is the caravan and tip trailer brigade who are clueless at the best of times but I doubt we will all make up on the 20th to gridlocked chaos and rows of upturned trailers

Pikeys doing clearances and drives and tree cutting dumping every layby and back road can now be tugged as reward or hire

Our local council have been impounding vehicles suspected of fly tipping mostly people advertising rubbish removals or garden clearances, but a lot get their vehicles back it seems or just buy another old piece of crap and carry on. Every day there’s new piles of shite dumped in gateways or verges and even in the lanes.

To be honest fly tipping is the Problem of the E.A, no one else..... and they are not interested..... 3.5t tipper owning rogues do not possess great bank accounts to pursue and being self funding the E.A wants to go after businesses with fringe offences which will just cough up coin....

DVLA and driving licenses need a bloody good reform..... B test up to 3.5t, C1 Test up to 10t, C test for Rigid, C+E Test for everything else....
Scrap Cat H, F and Roller...... Tests are purely on weight.

Place next to our job old go kart track do bike training and trailer training only. Two new d max pickups and box trailers lettered up more than half their business gone overnight I’d say. Might see if they want to sell a box trailer.

I towed for many years without one (16 maybe), only when I got new mrs did she make me do test to go to Cornwall with 27’ caravan. (I’d been year before with it) £500 and a day out my life. Only got 1 minor in test for s**t gear change in trainers transit.

nothing useful in training about loads, weight distribution or strapping etc just hooking up and inspection.

See, what certain people have been very quiet about is the fact that you don’t actually need to do any training or qualification to call yourself a trailer trainer. Just the trailer license and ‘suitable experience’. It’s not like being a driving instructor. Easy money. How many on here have called up for prices for trailer training and been told “oh, you’ll need at least three days. At stupid money, no you can’t use your truck and trailer you have to hire ours”

I made very clear in my response to the consultation that the vested interests of such people should be ignored. Plenty of other businesses vanished overnight during corona. They can always sell the trailer for good money and join some other training scam. I mean scheme.

I hear strimmer training and abrasive wheels are money for old rope… all the councils are putting their blokes through it.

See, what certain people have been very quiet about is the fact that you don’t actually need to do any training or qualification to call yourself a trailer trainer. Just the trailer license and ‘suitable experience’. It’s not like being a driving instructor. Easy money. How many on here have called up for prices for trailer training and been told “oh, you’ll need at least three days. At stupid money, no you can’t use your truck and trailer you have to hire ours”

Similarly you don't/didnt as the case is soon need to go and do a course before you take you're trailer test. Me and mate did ours about 12 year ago and tbh if you should be able to manage the driving part of it. As for the reversing and hitching unhitching etc book off ebay for £3 and get yourself some cones and an empty car park. Ironically day we went for tests and passed two lads with training centres both failed.

Reckon insurance will be ok with it? Guess no option if you can legally drive without test then?
Used to be a right stinker if you got caught as cops claimed you driving with no insurance etc..know a couple of lads that got tugged.

That's why I'm in favour of o license from small vans E.A are not doing there job so police and dvsa can take them off the road

They don't do their job taking tractors being used as lorries off the road, with £££££ of gear to impound. What makes you think they'd bother with an old transit?

We need existing legislation enforced, not more pointless rules. This reintroduction of trailer allowances is a great step. Throw the book at those running without proper brakes etc.

Had a discussion the other day with my mate who did abrasive wheels a few years ago. After the training the trainer asked if anyone had any questions. Mate asked "so now we can go out and use any grinder" yes the reply. So that boy over there who has never used a grinder is fine to use 1, yes the reply. My mate then asked don't you think in this course there should be basic of what to do and how to do it? At that point my mate was accused of being argumentative and the instructor got quite irate. Another guy then said he agreed with what had been said.
The young boy had struggled all the way through the course so he was probably a danger to himself

That sounds like most training courses you would struggle to fail most I've been on and it gets even worse if you do the tickets in a private yard. The instructors will tell you in most instances that if they fail someone they won't get repeat work so isn't in there interest.

Funny thing is, anyone with B license had provisional rights to drive B+E.

So my Mrs could drive my truck with 3.5t trailer as long as her mom (who’s never towed anything or driven anything bigger than a Yaris) was in the passenger seat and there was an L plate back and front.

It seems to me that this deregulation is necessary to mitigate the effects of the government's response to covid. Ironic that the latter was for our own safety, and the former is going to make things more dangerous.

Full of gloating comments re buying & towing now.
There will be a sudden glut of new towing.
