Gearbox work

nope .... no painting ...... been lashing down this afters and ........................

have spent bloody hours today looking for my ****ing passport ....
wanted to get into the Gov. Gateway this morning and as i've not logged in there in bloody ages they wanted passport details ....
went to where it lives and it ain't ****in' there ...
have turned my office upside down today ....
virtually emptied the filing cab it lives in and sorted through dozens of hanging file holders ............
and still can't find the bloody thing .......
if it ain't where it lives usually, it's in my pocket or on the desk in use. ...... otherwise it only has one home

5th Aug was presented at the SAS camp to get in
21st sept. presented as photo ID
22nd Oct. presented as photo ID at local screwfix for on line purchase collection
since then I can't recall needing it and assumed (wrongly it seems) that it was in it's usual home ....
'praps one of the kids's stuck it/posted it somewhere ..... but they'll never remember if they have

75 ****ing quid for a replacement ...... 's gotta be here somewhere

Easy mistake, all products of the 1960’s/70’s British engineering complacency. Interesting that at the last minute, Leyland, Foden and ERF proved they could match the Opposition, just wayyy too late to save themselves.

This is clearly an invitation to post all matters relating to gearbox work on this thread
We all like a challenge so it will be interesting to see how it develops.
In recent years I have changed and repaired many gearboxes, so I'll dig out the photos for y'all........

Gearbox at present has 75/80 in .. as suggested might try à thicker oil to help with syncro - what grade would you be trying ? ... a single grade 90 or thicker ?

That's thinker than I was expecting - I'd probably only go up one grade, but happy for others suggestions / experience.

I'd drop out what's in there and refill with ep80/90 and see how it goes .... what's in there has probably been in there since it came off the line

I’m sure I will be corrected if I’m wrong, but from memory 75/80 is semi synthetic? And from experience a hell of a lot thinner in a gearbox than 80/90 mineral oil. So I’d try some 80/90 too personally.

need to make sure it doesn't have an oil pump built into it, like an LT77 box, which must be ATF to circulate

I wonder if an ep 90 hypoid type gear oil wouldn't help with the synchro problem , a straight 90 gear oil could be better

It was changed in 2018 apparantly when it was built as a hookloader ... there is a sticker on saying 75/80 was put in ....so as suggested will drop it out and put 80/90 in it and see if it helps, it usually sets off o.k then after a decent bit of running (as oil gets warm and thinner) then it crunches more easily - so it just might help.

but you'll get back there again eventually ... try 44t of 8 leg grove with 13 cogs and the same number of donkeys
