I know of an aggregate bagging business in quarry just bought 50k litres red before April to run their shovel and forklifts rest of the year. Ordered and paid before Ukraine crisis but doesn’t take many of those to drive demand up plus when it’s hard to get hold of ppl panic buy and fill all their tanks etc making it worse
Trouble is in doing that they'll stick out like a sore thumb when hmrc look into what's been sold

Depends on how many do so.
Won't matter if everyone in Feb/March suddenly bought 4 or 5 times the amount of red they usually do I think they'll be getting a visit. I think to do it and get away with it you'd have needed to up what you were buying monthly over the past year and have been filing extra tanks. Trouble with that is you then don't buy diesel for a year it looks just as suspect.

If a Majority do so and it starts to become a majority s**t is likely to get very very interesting tbh. from a legal standpoint.

Do we really think HMRC going to be poking into every nook and cranny for the first 12 months?
My accountant said few times lately they can't cope with normal stuff...check out the bounce back loan scams etc. I bet first 12 months it's a blinder unless you a big outfit they after anyway?🤷 Good luck them rocking up at some yards round here and sniffing for diesel😂
On the face of it utter madness to hike up a key raw material for a key Industry in war time FFS .
I get oil price is bonkers etc bit it's well within giv control to say fk off to the green lobby and ditch the red diesel fiasco. Rant over

There’s nothing green about the red diesel fiasco, it’s money making, pure and simple.

Also:
According to the RAC Foundation and Fair Fuel UK’s national panel, average profit margins for diesel have increased by 150 per cent in the last two years, with petrol margins at the pumps more than doubling.

well if HMRC decide to visit on the 2nd April they'll likely shut 'em down and make them dispose of the whole lot .... their blurb was DO NOT order red for use beyond 1-4-2022 ... end of the month they're 'sposed to swap to white :(

HMRC have an entire 'division' dedicated to RDCO in Neeecestle ... when it was inaugurated, decades ago, they took on 1000 staff to admin and police it ...... I'll bet they've been recruiting recently too

combine that with the fact that everyone has been told categorically not to 'stock up' , but to deplete their red stocks and to have white in stock ready for the April fool's day change over, there'll be no defence and they'll likely come down heavy and hard on transgressors :(

I'm ok on the red front but should have got finger out a bit sooner where the white is concerned 🙈

That remains to be seen, as I said apparently even menial stuff is taking them ages so to expect them to come down like a tonne of bricks immediately isn't happening apparently.
Stuff that took them a week pre covid is now 6 weeks plus.

bet the RDCO outlets're still getting heavy fines if they're not bang on time getting their monthly returns in though .... was a PITA, end of the month, every month :(

I can't believe they have even a tenth of that number personally.

How long have the Fastrac boys been getting away with it? 1000 staff on the books you could have soon put a stop to that but they haven't.

They probably never leave the office though @doobin and once you fill an office with people not a lot happens. Quite feasible imho

insufficient man power Doob ... could well see a change in that situation ;)

with the volume of paperwork and numbers to crunch, that the RDCO system created, they'd need 'em all Doob .... they weren't field operatives as weren't needed to be ... had a small number of stasi who used to come around and give you the once over maybe every two years or so, more if you didn't 'perform' as required, but otherwise it was all on line sub.s with paper records kept - reams of the bloody things - for IIRC five years. I've probably still got the sub.s on an HD some where if I looked!!
they will now have reason to recruit a lot more stasi types, as the fines will fund their operation .... and some probably :oops: ...... IMHDO, there has been far too much fuss made about this for them not to police it - rigidly :( ....... time will tell
