Thanks. Got an account at Screwfix. I assume that's the size I need ? 3mm isn't too thick is it ?
all sorts on ebay if you want/need to go thinner

a good engineers supplies should also be able to supply them in varying thicknesses (y)

there are 'schedules' for std. washer sizing ... https://leytonfasteners.co.uk/washer-dimensions/

Yep - the bolts are 3/4UNF which translates to 19mm. It's not structural, so 20mm will do fine.

I don't know, I haven't put that much wear on mine yet .:ROFLMAO:
seriously though, 3x3mm each side was correct on mine with new pads. If you find you need a smaller adjustment, you'd only need four half-thickness washers to shuffle through the stack. (hope that made sense).

could use a longer bolt and a locknut and do away with washers, some 3cx machines had it standard and very easy to adjust i thought.

Washers have the advantage the adjustment will be square.
Given you only get a good view one of four ends, the other three must be taken on faith.

Yes, it's just that 3mm sounded as if it might be a bit thick if the adjustment, according to the service manual, is to be down to 1/16 " (1.5mm)

Thanks for that. Very useful.

Yes, that makes sense. Thank you. Putting a spring washer is going to complicate the job I suppose. It's just that as far as I can tell there is nothing to stop the bolts coming loose. Maybe you could put some Loctite or some other thread locker on or am I going completely over the top here ?

the slides don't need to be tight anyhow 👍🏻
True.
The manual says: set the gap to 'not more then 1.5mm'.

You could use a low grade loctite (say 222) if you wanted, but each bolt just engages a single hole/thread. There is nothing to start the bolt turning.

Lot simpler and less hassle with washers and the slides don't need to be tight anyhow
All true. And this machine is only used occasionally nowadays. We're both slowing down here. :)

Sorry, but 3/4" UNF is just that ... a unified fine thread
Physically it equates to a 19mm dia, but that is all
it's 16 TPI ... M19 is a 1mm pitch so '25.4' TPI
M20 is 2.5mm pitch (so roughly 10 TPI) and a mm too large in dia. to fit into a 3/4" hole .. threaded or plain.

Yikes - no I didn't mean the threads were compatible, just that M20 washers would be ok on the dipper wear blocks.
ah right ;) (y) ....
personally I'd go for some 3/4 UNF set screws and add say 6mm(1/4") on the length you spec.ed .... put some half nut lock nuts on them...
much less faff to adjust ... pinch up the wear pad adjustment and back the bolts off 1/2 a turn, then lock off with the half nuts

thats what i was meaning but you have put it so much better than my attempt. one or two of the 3cx i drove had them and it was simple to adjust them and no washers to remove and save.

yeh waaaay easier and much simpler ..... you'd need quite some vibration or other force to back off the lock nuts unintentionally

Makes me wonder why Mr. Bamford's men didn't do it like this in the 1st place.

Done the wear strips with out removing the extender
Remove adjuster bolts
Take out top ones by undoing bolts that hold them in lift arm so not on ground remove lower top ones then push bucket/hitch/ extender end on ground and fish out the bottom lower ones
To put back just do it in reverse
