If a decent house lasts 200 years and building to the above standard costs an extra £20k per house but uses one third of the energy for its lifetime?

Absolutely (unfortunately) true!The problem is that the houses being built arnt being built for the customers benefit. They are for the developers benefit. Therefore A) they arnt going to waste 20k if they don't have to and B) they certainly arnt built with a 200year life in mind. As long as they reach the end of warranty they are happy

I read that Persimmon made £66k profit per house last year... is it really that hard for them to make “just” £46k and build something that’ll be inhabitable in 100 years?

I do feel for the private buyers who have expensive EV’s on order having justified the purchase on grounds of running costs. Obviously still stacks up for a company car due to BIK but what will that look like in two years?

Biggest problem with the big house builders is they can bend the rules with building control by pre registration of large phases. They are putting foundations in for houses that won’t be built for several years to avoid the latest regulation changes.
I go it wrong. And selling price £237k and 31.4% margin.That's a lower price than I expected. The local developments are 600k and up for “affordable" housing.

I charge my car at home via octopus Go, its 7.5p a kw at 12-4 am.
The other day i picked my Dad up, 100 mile round trip at 2.8miles a kw ( many cars are better than this but mine is quickest i can get)
so i used 35kw aka £2.57 of electric. I can claim £5 of electric use via the business
If i had my old range rover doing 25mpg the same trip at £1.80 a litre would have cost £32.68
Its going to take a lot of price increases to get electric the same price as diesel. If i did have to charge via the network this would of cost around £17.50 (50p a kw)
However the Skoda we have (fam mobile) does 4kw on a run and would have cost £1.87 to do 100 miles.

Apparently there is a new scheme on the way but not very good looking at itIt started me thinking of a lot of solar on a big old bale trailer for ease of grounds maintenance and overcoming seasonal shade... but until they raise the feed in tarrif to something remotely useful or I can justify some big batteries it’s pointless.
I could cancel out all my yearly electrical use with solar sold back to grid, just not at the times I need it. Surely subsidies on feed in should exist if I could be a net provider rather than user? Would cost around £10k (which looking at the current rate of price escalation would not take long to pay for itself)
I’m an all electric house with very low energy needs 2500kwh for heating and h/w (average is 12000 kWh) could easily be self sufficient if storage wasn’t an issue.
ASHP with underfloor running at 30 degrees and double the insulation whilst being anal about air tightness will literally reduce energy use by two thirds.
it’s cool in summer and toasty in winter.
Surely now people will catch on that this is the only way to build in the future?
