Druid, I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you can't put your equipment under cover it will deteriorate, especially the electrics.. At least put a temporary lean to off the side of your shipping containers and what you can't fit in there cover with a tarp.
All my machines are under cover except when out on a job. (That's 3 JCB 1CX's, small tractor, Haulotte Multijob, Hino 15 tonne tip truck, ride on and other mowers and stuff like a 3PL wooodchipper and some other attachments.) Even on a job if it's going to rain I'll cover them with a tarp. And I certainly don't have my diesel genny/welder or fabrication tools or benches out in the weather
It's not as permanently wet here as the UK but when it rains it can be measured in feet. And when it's hot and sunny it can be very hot and sunny, with plenty of UV to degrade paint, hydraulic hoses and plastics including those in sealed cabs.

One of my sheds is new but the rest are older but roofs don't leak and one is secondhand and reconstructed. One is a substantial lean to off a shipping container and it also covers the whole shipping container as well so it doesn't rust and lose paint in the weather.

I hate breakdowns with a passion, especially those which require extensive troubleshooting. I also hate seeing good machinery and other equipment degrade in the weather. (Should be the machine equivalent of the RSPCA to stop this suffering! I've seen the rust on close up photos of the 'Drema!) For a fabricator like yourself Druid, who has a lovely house and a lovely stone faced retaining wall, (I've read this whole thread), to have no shelter for your equipment is like locking your cat outdoors in the rain. If you wouldn't do it to your cat you shouldn't do it to your machinery.

No excuses Druid, start putting something up, no matter how temporary, and protect Clara's inheritance, everything else and stop the rust and corrosion on your equipment (Really needed a stern wagging finger emoji here.)

I'd disconnect the immobiliser if its going to spend its life in your yard.

if it gives you trouble at a key moment you can normally get them going by crossing the solenoid as the aftermarket immobiliser's don't cut the power to the stop solenoid

Lil' Jake has a purpose made cover .... sadly it was forgotten the day he made the trip to Druid central and is yet to find its way here ... but you can't blame little ol' me for the level of corrosion in that box of 'lectrikery .. tha's been going that way for sooooooome time.

I do however take your points ...
if it was as simple as banging summat together and chucking it up, it'd have happened some time since.

Having a complete **** (select your own expletive - many fit) for a neighbour really doesn't help the cause ...
the heartache and grief that is going to ensue, from any planning application, is going to be immense
sadly we don't have the luxury of unfettered shed building in the UK ...
the hoops are as immense as they are tight

Currently keeping a close eye on some ideal steel frames up for grabs (put 'em up in auction watch last week) .... but even with the where with all, the hoops still have to be surmounted

"hot, sunny," and UV degradation are not high on the things to worry about list here either and with the winds we get, temporary can be just that .. here today, gone tonight

As we said some years back, increase your holding to 5 hectares, keep half a dozen sheep, and serve a 28 day notice on the local authority. If you demonstrate that it’s for necessary agricultural requirements like keeping your tractor in then they cannot refuse and the neighbour has no say.
Anyway don’t you have leverage on them after they demolished your wall and gateway?

Simply field rent agreement. Can not just be a seasonal grazing licence and no requirement for any livestock. Agricultural does not just mean animals!!

been a long day today ... starting at 5 .... left Russ's by 6.40 and on site at 7:57 ..... guess where we've been

bit of a problem ... new cooler unit no worky properly, leaking and corroding badly ..... take it back oot and ship it back to Glasgee for a refund. Not fit for purpose!!
Russ rang me yesterday morning "you busy tomorrow Gra? " by 12 it was " 's off - no transport - how you fixed Thursday? " , by 2:00 it was " sorry mate .. forget it . can't find a truck anywhere !! " ..... sat eating me tea at 6:15 last night ... " can you still do tomorrow .. just had one of the truck company's ring me ... driver back from Italy a day early and can do an early pick up - can you get to my place for 6.30- ?" 43 phone calls he made yesterday trying to find transport .. getting quoted mid to late November and 1600 quid for 3tonnes of tin. ......

" yeh no sweat, bring the pump out and we'll drop it in no prob.s " ...arrives with this 60kg pump and says " I'll just go and get an extra permit sorted " ....By the time he gets back it was slung, in spot and we were wrapped up ready to leave ..... could've carried the damned thing in there .... how ever .... job sorted, man happy and (to quote big Arnie) we'll be back .. to drop the replacement cooler unit in once they've bought another one .. that doesn't leak.

I get home just in time to meet & greet DPD with a couple of bits .... followed by (must've met on the drive somewhere) not the usual bloke from Hermes - he's off with a bad back - thought he didn't look great, last time he was up with us ... hadn't opened the door and the posty's on the drive with me immobiliser ..... call that bloody good timing - seeing as Pam was no where to be found
and I'd not been in the house to see her note to say she'd gone down to Vicki's in the village

so quick cuppa, park the motor and unload all me gear ... always go prepared for a full, wet day !!
unpack said immobliser and .......... doesn't look like what I ordered ... fitting 'destructions' missing along with the warranty card ... this is in a sealed box

write them an essay , with pix for illustration and send it off ... if I'd actually had the fitting destructions to determine whether the wiring corresponded, it wouldn't have been an issue .. as long as it worked .. but I'm not bloody psychic and all black wires with ident tags -- which ain't on what's in lil' Jake was no ****ing good to me .... needed a bit more than a glossy A6 brochure, congratulating me on purchasing their box of tricks, two window stickers and a sheet of terms and conditions to achieve a successful install

so a tad p*ssed off this evening ... plus of course, they'd all fooked off home by the time I tried to call them to endeavour to get a speedy resolution to the issues ........ so Job for the morning -- when i should've been fitting it ........ at least it wasn't raining in Tenbury Wells and I've been in shirt sleeves all day - 17C ... and it's almost Halloween

I wouldn’t mind looking into that as well . I’m just looking at putting a wee flat roof between my containers . I’d love to be able to get the bigger machines inside to work on them out of the elements .

We got prices from three places:
Zappshelter they look like a cracking tent but wanted £18k for 18x12m shelter.
NPStructure will do a container/aggregate shelter 12m by any multiple of 2m you want. We went for 12x20 and was around £12k.
Shelterit do on also and was around£8k but was of zingtong origin and we shy'd away from it

assume the 20m is the width @Quattromike ? what sort of warranty on the cover? ... 's alot of money for a temporary roof, but presumably no planning issues/requirements?
what do you mean by aggregate shelter? to cover agg piles presumably ... can't imagine the lego block wall came cheap either ?

did consider spreading my 40 fts out behind my old w/shop and sitting a roof over the gap ... would've given me a 40 x 44 ft covered area for a painting bay, but never got around to it ... never had enough space clear for painting stuff .... usually waited for dry days and painted out in the yard with the airless, unless stuff was piling up ... then it was the fabricator's friend as it got done

well the essay to the immobiliser seller produced result ...... supposedly same unit, with a different label ... they emailed me the fitting destructions late this morning ..... just before it started to persist down , so hopefully, if the forecast is right and the sun shines tomorrow, will see if I can get lil' Jake sorted, now I am 'informed' on what wire/colour ident tag does what

not what you'd call rocket science, but without the idents .. would've taken a bit of sussing out

Good luck. My task for tomorrow is hopefully an easier replace a track then something similar with the towing interface on the Iveco needing some attention!!
