the budget model was the Renault 15 - same body but budget trim/mechanicals ... the Gordinis were pretty rare .... never saw another then or since
got replaced by the Fuego

that Gordini had some of the comfiest car seats I've ever sat in ....... Renault prided themselves in their in car ergonomics ...... managed to find a pair for a mini traveller i had with a 1289 cooper lump in it :giggle: ... recall that was fun
When I was about 15 I had an older mate with a Renault 5 gordini ........ I thought it was amazing back in the day ..... a eye watering 95HP or something :)

had lots of fun playing with them in France with the kwak, mid '80s :giggle::giggle:
and the 2,s

Metro 6R4...... mate used to campaign one ..... everyone reckoned he'd be better off sticking his sponsor's advertising logos in the sump :ROFLMAO: .... as it was on the floor more regularly than the wheels :ROFLMAO:..... 3/4 of a Rover V8 motor ...... went like hell in the night - when they went .... pretty little thing too

Reno 5 turbos were quick for what they were, had a plucky little motor with a tendency to self destruct and a body shell made of tinfoil. They were not something I would have ever wanted to be in during a big off! I know of a few who didn’t fare well after a crash.

totally agree James ..... but serious fun as long as you kept it out of the scenery :giggle:(y) .....

Pigscot 205GTi,s were of a similar construction, but with less stressed motors
seam welded a shell for a mate many years ago .... never seen so many layers of laminated panels as in the front footwells of one o' they :oops: .. took some seaming up

205s were my weapon of choice, still have a few. Far better construction than the 5’s imo. And far tougher than the later models like 106’s etc.
205 engines were very good and stuck the abuse well. Reno were just asking too much from that 1.4 Volvo block. But as you say, they were good fun in you kept them the right way up and on the tarmac!

We're the r5's not a turbo/carburettor setup, seem to remember the ones still about v early days of driving myself to have issues running hot.

They ran very hot and suffered head gasket trouble frequently. If you got a badly treated one with issues then they were always in bits!
yes they were turbo carb iirc. I worked on a few but stayed away from them where I could

Obviously they were early turbo petrol cars hence the carb setup but it would explain the hot running, be difficult to get them setup right. Mind i bet few weren't fiddled with.

An unmolested example would be rare now and wroth a few quid too!
When i look back now at how many cars a few lads a little younger than me owned between 2000 and 2010 and what some of them were it doesn't bear thinking about. So many cars which then were worth little money that were one owner from new cashing in for something more modern bought and thrashed everywhere until they went through a hedge. Still it's how it's always been and unless you've somewhere to keep them they'd just have rusted away if you'd bought them i guess.

A mate had a Citroen AX GT that was phenomenally quick back in the day - I definitely wouldn’t have liked to have been in it in a proper shunt as it was essentially made from tinfoil but it was a very fast and underrated car at the time!

Yeah they were quick in fact most of the Citroen GT stuff moved sharpishly...but you deffo wouldn't want to be in a shunt in one...😱

Used the bare minimum of tin foil to keep the mechanical bits in the right place 🤣
Like you say wouldn't wanna be in a big shunt in one but made for some fun motors.
