The stone wall looks fantastic Druid, seems to be a dying trade never see any young people doing it. Is it all just hand picked stones or does Reo crop them to get a straight edge to work with? You should have had a time laps camera up to capture the progress would have made a great wee video.

A retired builder has been building a wall on the way to a job we are on at the moment..... its like a work of art in my book ... like you say no-one does it any more, this has been done in the local slate stone, all small pieces and takes a good eye and lots of patience to find and place each piece.
Will take a photo on my way tomorrow and see if you agree.

I have some stone facing ready to be done at home myself. There is a few young lads here do it but tbh they can too picky with stone so retired builder coming to do it as and when he pleases.

Sadly I don't possess a time lapse that I could leave out .. got a couple of SLRs that'd do it, but wouldn't really wanna leave them sat out for 3 weeks
Funny you should ask about a cropper .... asked the boys from the local garage who do small plant hire to drop theirs up last week, as a lot of this is going to need sizing down some ..... it still hasn't appeared ... Reo was gonna show me the technique and I'd have gone through some of the MUCH BIGGER stuff, while he's away... cancelled it now 'til he's back .... the rest of the stuff - all you see - is Reo's eye and his right hand with his brick hammer.
he's an 'odd' sort of fella, but with a serious work ethic .... I really like him, especially as i've gotten to know him better the last few weeks ... and a real petrol head ... has a Porsche 911, a 180 brake TT and a 220 version he bought last week ... absolutely mint apparently ...... drinks more coffee than i do .... I keep his cup full all day .... and he just keeps laying it down ..................... 's no wonder we've had to wait so long for him ... WELL worth it though

well we had engineer #4 here yesterday morning ..... at 08.00 ..... Josh at SSE (our 'net provider) is really giving 'em sh1t ..... he got the same results as Steve did last Tuesday and ian on Thursday ... and whatever the other fell's name was Monday........ Had open reach on the phone, wanting to come and look at my incoming line socket ... been having it dropping stuff and losing it for months now and been waiting weeks in the 'covid' queue
Have had a young fella ringing several times a day for the last week checking on the 'state of play', from SSE and he'd organised an engineer
'Steve' turned up .. changed the socket, which is maybe a year old after a storm blew t'other off the wall and put his test gear on ...... to immediately find a major issue --- Hurrah ... house to pole.....fine ...
fingers crossed for a 'result'
and all the ones after Steve also got the full low down from me, before ringing Steve to find out WTF the issue is ... banjaxed over head up on the road .. they don't want to pay to replace it ..... if i knew where it was they'd have to ...... after i put an axe through it ...Josh, in fairness, has made it his mission now, having told him about it, to make them replace it " fingers crossed for a 'result' "

well you've heard of a "Fist Full of Dollars" .... well here;s me 'phone full of exploits' ... from yesterday and today .....
Pam went off to Plymouth with Vicki and Clara this morning ... and as i was getting wound up it promptly pee-ed down
but first .... yesterday .... bale wrap ... great stuff for containing anything vaguely iffy
then having moved all me buckets, grabs and miscellany from here ... it got some black stuff laid out , once I'd laid some clean 40mm to level
but not before i'd moved JakieB, who is still having 'breathing difficulties' .. 'praps he has Covid ? ......
thought i'd be pushing my luck trying to pick him wholesale so hopped him across an end at a time..... 'Drema picked his arse end up no sweat ... after i'd found some where i could get some chains onto and the front end's no issue, even at a fair stretch over the top of him .... she's a beast for lifting
anyway ... got him hopped over and planings spread and rolled ...
shifted the Thwaites on to the fresh stuff this morning, after it'd had a n other going over ... pee-ed down here over night and 'twere all well wet ... went down another inch .
then moved Humperdumper across, wholesale ... quick pick and away
'fraid I didn't get any pix ... didn't wanna leave if hanging ..... then set about clearing out the corner of everything i'd not long stuffed in there .... ready for some more black stuff .... after i'd dropped a pallet of shite rock in the hole and broken it up a tad
was a very steady trundle across with that pallet, creaking and groaning .... did NOT wanna be playing 52 rock pick up ... 'least not in the middle of me fresh planings .. dropped it in where i wanted it
and gave it all some abuse with me fave Geith .... drop some black stuff on it in the morning, from the edge of the pile, so's i can get at them IBCs and shift 'em ...... will give me yet more area for another pallet of tish rock and allow me a decent angle of attack on the sleeper stack/rack ...... 's gonna be a heavy lil' mother that one ..... If I get today's area sorted and rolled i can just swing yon sleepers round on to it for now ... everything behind 'em is a lot more 'manageable' ....... I have shite spread all over the place ATM

finished off the afternoon disposing of a few fooked pallets ..... and damned near set fire to the bank ... hell they went well in the bin ... had to drop the lid on it ...... and of course no 'dinner bell' tonight, so was gone seven by the time it'd died down enough to leave it unattended and come and get some grub ...... before finishing off the rest of the nadgered pallets, after me favorite Aldi Ding .. beef in black bean sauce and egg fried rice ... can not recommend it enough and haven't had one for months as Vicki's not been shopping in Aldi and we've not been there since March .... but Pam grabbed me a few 'dings' when she ventured into town last week ... and the place was deserted
finished off with a dead dumpy, off me chain rack ........ jeeeeeeeeeeezus did it smoke ...... they usually just burn like buggery .... bloody good job we had a stiff south westerly blowing
