The rope on the newer sets is much nicer. I must swap it sometime.need to get some Casar anti twist rope for that Alex

even the real thing does that, if you ain't got the right anti twist rope spooled up
.. twice the price but worth it's weight .... if you go to buy a crane ... you always want to see it 'full stick', two falls and a full drop .... if the rope twists, it's a cheapo rope
ideally also wants to be Lang's lay, not ordinary lay .... lasts longer and more resistant to twist

FB marketplace is great for deals, but for your first time, I'd suggest a new boxed & bagged set. Nothing more frustrating than missing parts. Lego are great at replacing them, and I have a massive pile here, but FB sets may not always be complete - or you have to dismantle it first!

It's has an annoying habit of slipping off the pulley too on this one. It's so thin. Newer stuff is thicker.even the real thing does that, if you ain't got the right anti twist rope spooled up

take it there are no anti cobble sheave pins to keep the line in the sheaves ? Prob.s a tad small for that level of detail

You have it in one there. The rope on this is only a bit thicker than cotton thread. I've just ordered a pack of the modern stuff (x77cc150) for it
might even treat it to a linear actuator conversion, who knows...

Wasn't quite the predicted glorious day today ... in fact pretty crap in comparison ... damp start and been on/off all day, with some fairly heavy, but short, downpours.
whilst the rotator, off the Auramo, was dry ... dried pretty quick once the sun was out .. it got wrapped up, for putting aside for now ...
bloody heavy lump, but got it into three layers of bags, so'll hopefully fare well, for a while
cranked the genny up, to run the Ajax and the Startrite ... holed the four I forgot, in the plate, with the Ajax, ... save hauling out the mag drill......
.......before starting on me 12 spacer bosses ..... can assure you the tap was not as pissed as it looks in that shot .. weird camera angle
I know I took some pix of the bosses getting cut ..... but they'm not in me phone tonight ????? .... did get this lopped too, while i had it plugged in ....spacer plate for under me Kins. rotators, which needed a trim
after i'd cut what's sat in the tray there ..
then it was Ajax time ....... would've been so much quicker and easier with a lathe .... but I ain't got one... so's improvise again
... part done .... several more to go ....... the DRO is so handy for setting a centre and getting back to it .. rapido
came down lunchtime, to find Pam'd been buried under double-decker cats ...
....only has to sit down for a minute and they're there .. getting comfortable ... Sparts is not looking happy that Squeak had 'muscled in' under his perch
got it all done by tea time ... as said, would've been sooooo much quicker with a nice lathe .. drill and part off, drill, etc.. .. I'll find one
gave the bits some shiny tish after tea .....
... and if it ain't lashing down in the morning, I can get it all assembled ........ ready for the next bit ...............
keeps me occupied/out of mischief ..... and yon grass was too wet to assault ..... although it needs it .. AGAIN ......I'll swear i could see it growing the last couple of days

Have you ever thought about ‘working from home’ to earn a few quid Graham? I bet you’d do well knocking up bolt on/weld-on brackets for s-type change over etc - something you could gear up for small production runs and deliver a nice product sold through eBay. But then again you’ve probably had enough of that in your previous life!!

love making things and especially a challenge ...... in my previous life I was making the wrong things .. apparently
..... wish I'd'tapped into' this sort of market twenty plus years ago!!I've considered knocking out S type brackets, etc. ..... some of the prices I've seen are very Turpin-esque
... but as with all 'businesses, the overheads kill so much and are a huge drain on funds ... the rates at my old place were a grand a month ... and even had to pay extra, weekly, for me wheely bin FFS !!yes there is a market for a 'cottage industry' for this stuff ..... just need a roof to put over some gear

and on that note ..... today's escapades ......
slapped another coat on the plate, first thing, before assaulting the grass ...... Galloped the Dane around the 'paddock' beside the drive ...
and the old drive way ... then ran the Countax around the lawn, before usinf its sweeper to collect the not insignificant amount of massacred green stuff the Dane left lying about ..... by which time 'twere half two and munchy time ... then I turned my attention to this ......
all went together very well ..
then picked it off the bench ......
extricate the hoses from their retainers ..... and some pin retainers ... I do like this as a system ...
for a spot of .......ram removal
and sat back down ..... ram came out sweet as
for a strip and empty job .....
any oil left in there was clinging to the cylinder walls by its teeth .....
re-assembled and returned to its home ....
with the plumbing re-orientated, ready for some additions ...
full open is 1120 mm .....
plumbing suitably re-routed ...
the void between the spacer mounts and the original central body is perfect for a pair of hoses and I had just the pair to extend the originals with had to rob these off me flail's extension arm ... got another identical pair somewhere in me hose cupboard, but was damned if I could see 'em tonight ..... and these were already full of Plantohyd anyway
and devoid of 99.9% mineral oil, it's ready for a try in the a.m. ......
once I've stuck the VA-r on the dipper and picked it up ..... once I've got an idea of what moves where, i can secure the plumbing where I want it ..... but 'tain't far off as it is IMHDO
and shifted this lil' bugger out the way, off the main bench for now ...
was running out of light by nine so called it a day ... nice to have the evenings well and truly drawing out ......... and dry again today
