so --- found the old gas spring on the bench and as far as I can discern it was 1100N, after some very careful examination .. so circa 113Kg thrust (x 2 ) sounds about right - that bonnet is 'KIN heavy
wrestled it up by hand onto the bonnet stay that I fortunately made for it some time ago (original was missing)
and had the one remaining spring off ... here's the locations for 'em
she's getting a bit ripe in places
.......... and the rear ones
one I took off was in worse nick than what I already had on the bench - label wise, but still had about 20kgs of thrust .... interestingly they don't close fully as this one had about 2" of scabby-ish rod protruding, with maybe an inch or so's travel left 'til yon cover was fully closed - would explain its demise too - might put the new ones on t'other way up to keep the damp off them
it's possible the rear one had been replaced at some time as it's in much better general condition, aside from being completely ferked

I'd spun her round to make life 100% easier to work on
and'd found a lot of the sound deadening foam in a bad way and dropping onto the motor .... so the burgered bits had to go - too great a fire risk for my liking as it's pretty tight in the engine bay
got the trusty Goblin out and gave everywhere a good hoovering out - have had it donkey's and it's very handy for little jobs like this - small enough to tuck in anywhere or hang on yer shoulder if need be - no bag and sucks pretty well
so while it was cross chassis, checked all the fluids , then spun it around to give the cab a good suck out - not been done in a while
so job for tomorrow - order some bonnet lifting devices from SGS ... will be amazing not to have to fight the damned thing up in the air
